Novikontas founded in 2005 with the purpose of establishing highly professional and skilled seamen training center. At the moment Novikontas Training center offers more than 85 theoretical and practical training courses for adults and is the largest seafarers' training center in the Baltic region, which is active in both the European and international market.On the 1 January, 2017 significant changes of the main “working document” of all seafarers’ training centers – STCW convention – will come into force. The successful implementation of the Amendments to the STCW Convention is associated not only with the technical and legal requirement execution, but mainly with Novikontas staff’s professional ability to implement innovation in their work and the learning processes. Therefore there is a necessity to develop professional knowledge of the staff and their competences, using the best and most professional the experience and advanced technological equipment of our European partners. No secret that now in the international maritime labor market majority of the seafarers comes from Asian countries, so it is important to develop using the competent staff the knowledge and skills of European seafarers to improve their competitiveness during the employment in the international market. Erasmus+ provides opportunities for setting the new development phase in Novikontas staff ambitions of self-realization, capacity of the Training center and its’ vision of the synergy of the European seafarers training centers. This phase will begin with this project and will focus on networking with European partners, to develop and implement joint innovative practices and training programs in the adult education sector.Considering the above mentioned information, the objectives of the project are:• Train Training center staff to be able to implement, develop and successfully apply new teaching methods and approaches in the context of the amendments to the STCW Convention;• Improve the training approaches in working with multilingual and multicultural trainee audience and thus internationalizing Novikontas;• Conduct the improvement of the content of the training programs in accordance with the STCW Convention, as amended, and in accordance with the experience and approaches of the leading European training centers for seafarers;• Develop the networking of the Novikontas staff with the experts and personnel managers of the leading European maritime training centers for further close collaboration in Europe.The project will consist of 3 Training center staff training mobilities to the best and internationally recognized European seafarers training centers. The total number of trainees – 3 instructors and 1 management staff representatives from department of the adult education. All participants will be carefully selected, using the developed Quality management system. During the project participants will take part in the training courses for seafarers organized by partners, as observers, learners and instructor’s assistants to get more efficient and versatile understanding of the applied educational methods during the planning and implementation of the courses. In addition, the project partners will set up working groups, sharing their experience of teaching approaches and techniques, the implementation of new teaching methods, the quality assurance of the trainings, etc. Great attention will be paid to the cooperation enforcement and further development of the European dimension, in fact making this project the first step for the next strategic partnership project.The result of the project implementation will be improvement of the professional knowledge and skills of the instructors and management staff in the context of the STCW Convention, including a number of specific competencies that are distinctive to the maritime industry. The best practices and methods applied in the field of adult training by leading European seamen training centers will be integrated together with approaches working with the learner's multilingual and multicultural audience. Therefore, the project will not only improve the professional competence of staff, but also encourage staff interest in the future of international networking, improved international skills of the staff. In the final stages of the project the workshop for all Novikontas adult education personnel will be held to share the acquired knowledge and skills. Overall, the project will lead to the internationalization of Novikontas, attracting new learners from all over the world. The trainees of the Novikontas will be offered even more high-quality training programs, providing additional opportunities for future competitiveness in the labor market and positively affecting their lifelong learning and employment. The result of the synergy of the Project partners will strengthen the recognition of European adult education, raising its quality and prestige at the international level.
