PIC - Public Internet Centres and the Education of @dultes
Start date: Oct 1, 2005,

Recognising an upsurge in the number of Public Internet Centres (PIC) being established across Europe yet aware that many of these services were operating in isolation, with little reflection upon the quality of services being provided and with little direct marketing to those most affected by the digital divide, partners from 5 European countries came together to map the typologies of PIC networks operating in their countries, to study which practices and approaches were the most innovative and to identify high quality e-inclusion practices able to be more widely disseminated across Europe. In addition to establishing a community of shared practice, key results comprised a PIC typologies database, a series of good digital literacy, quality assurance and non-discrimination practice examples and a publication entitled Suturing the Digital Gash, the latter widely recogised by practitioners across Europe, and the European Commission, for its contribution to promoting telecentres as a channel for upskilling and empowerment amongst disadvantaged groups.
