Perspektiva mladih v navtični industriji
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project was dedicated to the mobility of students and staff of the Nautic and Electrotechnic school Piran (GEPŠ unit). First and foremost, we want our students to upgrade their knowledge and gain additional skills through practical work in companies. Due to the specifics of the nautical (maritime) industry and the economic situation in Slovenia, there is a lack of successful domestic companies (this is especially true for the maritime industry) in which our students could test and practice their skills. Moreover, despite the status of a maritime country, are considered professions in relation to the maritime slightly inferior, which is reflected in lower interest of students for these professions (somehow professions nautical apply to loss-making skills) and consequently in a few enrollment in the first year of school (in the history three classes last year barely filled by one class). Therefore, we want the project to enable working practices and trainings, following the principle of "learning by doing", which will give our students a new experience during their 4 -year education. We deliberately chose Germany because economic indicators suggest that German companies in the nautical industry, despite the global economic crisis in recent years, are successful. Apart from students, we wanted to send to the selected companies also part of the teaching staff, because we believe they can gain new knowledge which will be used in the composition of an innovative curriculum and extra-curricular activities and in new methods of presenting educational content. The objectives of the project were: increasing the employability of students, improving learning performance, enhancing career opportunities and improving language skills, raising awareness and acceptance of other cultures, the creation of an innovative curriculum and extra-curricular activities by the teaching staff and adaptation of the learning content to meet the needs of the market-companies perspective. Activities and methodology: In the project we wanted to work on topics that will involve both students and teachers. The emphasis was on international cooperation, intercultural and intergenerational education and the learning of a foreign language. We wanted to upgrade the theoretical technical knowledge of our students, we want to expand it with practical experience in great companies, which are related to maritime, electrical engineering and shipbuilding sectors, companies like Kuehn Elektrotehcnik GmbH, Kieback & Peter GmbH, Deutsche Telekom, Bildungsstätte der HWK Berlin, Berufsförderungswerk Fachgemeinschaft der Bau GmbH, EGB ELEKTROGESELLSCHAFT für Baustrom GmbH, Segelschulschiff Greif, Wismar University - WINGS - Wismar International Graduation Services GmbH - Maritime Education and Training Center and Rostock-Warnemünde. With the mobility of the staff we wanted to work on topics such as assembling an innovative learning curriculum and extra-curricular activities and adapting learning contents to meet the needs of the market. We also wish to show the staff modern work processes in companies with a global market. The methodology of the selection of participants was simple –on mobility we send most motivated students of higher classes with successful learning outcomes and permission of the parents (last year at school young generation, one class per year) and the (professional) part of the teaching staff (staff). Results and effects: We successfully completed training for students (15 + 2 students) and staff (3 + 1 teacher) in German companies and institutions. Expected effects on the students were as follows: increased understanding of the European dimension of practical training in companies, developing practical skills in business, gained experience that can foster entrepreneurial thinking and initiative, increased intercultural understanding and social tolerance towards peers, impact on the understanding of the importance of learning and training in an international environment, the impact on an individual's further career - greater employability. Expected impact on staff mobility were as follows: upgrading of theoretical and practical knowledge (Europass), increased understanding of the needs of the economy, the exchange has opened up new themes and ideas for the composition of an innovative curriculum/extra-curricular activities, an experience that affected the content of school and extracurricular activities to meet the needs of the market. Long-term effects: At the local level: raising awareness of the value of their own knowledge in a foreign environment; enhanced employability due to acquired references; early international experience and perspective on career paths. Regional level: Slovenia as a maritime country actually will restart the development of human resources and maintain nautical education with an international perspective. Project expanded the idea of the importance of language and cultural skills and international experi
