Perspectives of Unification of Private International Law in the European Union
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the framework of the project, the academic staff of the Department of Private International Law and European Economic Law, Faculty of Law, Eötvös Loránd University intends to carry out research and teaching work regarding the “Perspectives of Unification of Private International Law in the European Union”. The teaching and research team will be headed by Prof. Dr. Miklós Király. The choice of subject is justified by the fact that the unification of Private International Law in the EU is now at the forefront of academic debates. In the Jean Monnet Module, we intend to offer new courses and update some existing ones to arm students with the most current knowledge on EU Private International Law. The results of the research work would be built directly into the teaching material. Moreover, at the end of the project we will organise a workshop and the research outcomes will be published on the website of the project as well as in printed form. This means that the research outcomes will reach not only students, but also the broader professional community. The research would include the following issues: (1) the chances of an EU Private International Law Code, (2) the application of EU Private International Law Regulations in the Hungarian judiciary practice, (3) the impact of EU Law on the Private International Law of the Member States, (4) the impact of national laws on the development of EU Private International Law. Each member of the teaching and research staff will deal with a particular aspect of EU Private International Law in his research activity.
