From September 1st until August 31st 2016 Liceul Tehnologic Petrol Moreni implemented the school mobility project “ The perfection of the teachers in Liceul Tehnologic Petrol Moreni through job shadowing activities”. The teachers were ensured access to continuous professional refresher courses that fit the new professional skills through a job shadowing activity which took place in City College Plymouth, England. A success factor in implementing our project was the rich experience of the English partner, City College Plymouth, in offering high quality educational and professional refresher courses, at high European standards. The major problems that our school faces and which led to the necessity of implementing the project are: the current didactic activity permanently faces a growing number of students with learning difficulties and the tendency of early school leaving; lack of motivation and interest regarding school, because of social, family or medical problems; the low level of knowledge of the lower-secondary school students, which generates learning difficulties in most school subjects for the upper-secondary level students. The target group consisted of seven teachers: two English teachers, two chemistry teachers, a math teacher, a physics teacher, an entrepreneurial education teacher. The main objectives which met the needs of the target group were connected to developing superior professional skills concerning adjusting the curriculum to the learning needs of the students and their own pace of learning, improving the abilities to transfer the methods, techniques, examples of successful practice and their adaptation to the teaching process in our school in order to increase motivation and improve the school results. The activities were in agreement with the phases of implementing a project: choosing the foreign partner – City College Plymouth, selection of participants, signing the agreements with the partners and the participants, general, language and intercultural preparation activities of the participants before the proper preparation activity in England; the proper job shadowing activity, monitoring activity, evaluation and acknowledgement of the learning results, follow-up activities: dissemination of the results and their use, the partnership evaluation, continuing the collaboration in the future with the English partner. The proper job shadowing activity was five days long, from 23rd to 27th May 2016 and consisted in the Romanian teachers observing the preparation, teaching and learning activities developed by the English teachers. The immediate results of the project consisted in developing the professional skills and improving the abilities to use in the daily activity the student centred methods. The discussions the teachers had with the English team based on observing the lessons facilitated an experience exchange useful in the teaching activity, focusing on using interactive teaching and learning methods, much more efficient in preventing school leaving and improving school results. The participants’ portfolios will constitute themselves in a curricular auxiliary which all the teachers in school will be able to use; another result consisted in improving the techniques of school counseling and the ability to build a good teacher-student relationship. The project impact reflects itself in the fact that it brings extra value in the professional and personal development of the participants, by opening new ways to internationality and consolidation of the European dimension not only in the teaching –learning- evaluation process, but also in the educational field in its whole. The sustainability of the project is given by the continuation of the collaboration with the English partner by setting the basis of a new partnership KA1 VET, approved in 2016.
