PERFECCIONAMIENTO DE LAS DESTREZAS ORALES A TRAVÉS DEL "STORYTELLING"Y Y DE LAS TÉCNICAS Y ESRATEGIAS DE EXPOSICIÓN ORAL.

The project under consideration will be carried out by a State Language School ( Escuela Oficial de Idiomas de San Sebastián de la Gomera ) located on a small Island , La Gomera,with a total number of 22,000 inhabitants from the Canary Islands, and on which the access to cultural activities is quite limited. An actual fact is a spike in interest in foreign languages which has a translation in a demand of practical language teaching from this institution. The State Language School of San Sebastián de La Gomera is the only official language teaching school on the whole island for students from 14 or 16 years onwards, without taking into consideration Primary or Secondary State schools. The teachers involved will be the school Principal/Director with a large experience in English teaching language who has also taken part in other Teacher training programs as Grundtvig, and the other teacher from the English Department willing to be part of the project and its aims. Our Project would have as its main guideline the increase in oral skills from our student , production as well as comprehension. And taking into account the scarce teachers training offer on the island, we have decided to take up this European project Taking into account the European character of the projects, it has been considered that dealing with local oral tradition and legends to be conveyed beyond our national borders, will be an optimal focus as a kick off. This will go in both way, and bringing back to La Gomera English language oral traditions from Europe. Story teling has been considered as an activity that will accomplish these aims in the most suitable way: improvement in oral skills ,knowledge and exchange of domestic oral traditions from other countries. Eventualy students will be able to enhance their speaking abilities mainly by oral skills involved in story telling as pronunciation, entonation or use of dramatic tecniques without disregarding the impact on writing skills. Nonetheless, teachers in the project will need trainig in these skills to be brought back to the classroom and the rest of teachers on the island interested. The teaching acquired will be embedded in the Language school Institutional documents to be carried out by all the teaching staff in the short and long run. The stages of the project will consist of the following stages: 1. Elaboration of the Project, which will include as a preparatory task research and collection of Oral tradition legends from The Canaries.2.- Trip arrangements, logistics and daily planning, which includes the election ,after assessment, ot the rightTraining program in a European institution ( United Kingdom ) to acquire the necessary skills. 3.- Relevant data gathering while in the course to be assessed when back.4.- After the trip the completion of the documented record.5.- Material design and gathering on the project course to be used in our teaching paractice.6.- Planning and accomplishment of tools and statregies to be carried out the following academic year.7- Include the knowledge acquired in the School teaching program and release it to the other schools and high school with the aid from the Teachers Support Centre ( Centro de Profesores ).4.- Ellaboration of an activity guide. Eventually ,there should be an increase in the motivation and abilities of the student dealing with oral skills and with writing skills as well. Its direct traslation will be a project in which in a short and middle term basis will be able to carry out a story telling activity from its design in writing to its final production. In the long run , unquestionably it will show in a greater confidence in oral production skills. And as far as the teachers are concerned , the opening of new European channels in order to exchange information
