Per dei nuovi cittadini europei
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

L'Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore “Enrico Fermi”, is an upper secondary school located in Catanzaro in the South of Italy. It is made up of three different programmes : a Scientific programme, a Language programme and a Human Sciences programme (respectively with a section of ESABAC and a programme of Economic studies). Next year there will also be a Sports programme. There are more than 1100 pupils, more than 100 teachers (average age 50) and 65 among technicians and administrative. The students attending the school come from the same town and from many other villages in the sorroundings , some of them situated in depressed areas; for this reason a lot of students are commuters. These days most of their families are living economical difficulties. The vision and the mission of our school are aiming at improving the teaching quality through teacher trainings and at updating the setting of learning, opening it to global horizons and making it attractive thanks to new forms of interaction between the surrounding territory and the families. But, as the report of self –evaluation of the school (September 2014) has revealed, from the disappointing results of the INVALSI (the National Test of evaluation of pupils’ competences in the second classes) in which 8 classes out of 12 have had marks inferior to the national average and from the negative results in the University Admission Tests, we can say that our school doesn’t reach most of its goals. One of the reasons for this negative trend is that the teachers are disheartened and with little motivation, needing new inputs, new training forms, as the lifelong learning programme suggests, in an international context, where new competences are required for the inclusion of everybody in the direction of a sustainable development, which is a priority of the Europe 2020 Strategy. The poor knowledge of foreign languages and of the new technologies of information and communication of 85 % of the teachers in our school is the main reason of their distance from new forms of training, which would improve their teaching methods, obtaining better results with their students. The ERASMUS+ PROJECT, is the best way to broaden the horizons of education and training and the right occasion to give a wide-ranging innovation to our school. In our ERASMUS+ PROJECT, we have planned 43 activities of staff training, in 2 years for 30 teachers, in particular teachers of Scientific subjects, of Foreign Languages, History, Art, Human sciences. The activities are of two kinds: -structured courses of General English aiming at getting B1/B2 certified levels; courses on new teaching methodology based on the use of new technologies of information, CLIL Approach, benchmarking in Finnish schools, tailored up to the needs of the participants, and entrepreneurship courses. -activities of job shadowing in which our teachers of scientific subjects will work side by side with collegues of France, Sweden, Lithuania, in CLIL classes, together with teachers of foreign languages. Both training experiences, which will take place in different European countries (England, Spain, Portugal, Finland, Slovenia, France, Lithuania, Sweden), will enable teachers to improve their professional performances thanks to a “new” opening : new tools, new teaching methods, new cultural contexts. The experience will go on also by keeping in touch with the European collegues on the net, by the e-twinning site, by real and virtual class exchanges. Furthermore, many actions will be planned in order to control the impact and the benefits of the project and of the experience of training abroad of every teacher and in order to share the results inside and outside the school. For this reason short, medium and long- term monitoring will be carried out, through questionnaires for teachers, students, families to assess whether and to what extent our project has reached its objectives and results . The monitoring action aims at evaluating the real impact of the project through measurable results. We will assess the numbers of CLIL classes activated, the number of European citizenship classes activated, the number of partnerships realized and the number of students and teachers involved, the number of language certificates obtained by the teachers, the number and kind of TIC certificates, the number and kind of training courses attended after the training abroad, the number and kind of digital tools used in classes and of digital material used or produced, the number and kind of actions realized to share the actions, the number and kind of new teaching approaches used after the experience abroad, the increase in self-confidence and in motivation of the teachers, the increase in the approval of lessons in the students and families, the decrease in the drop outs, the improving in the results of competences in INVALSI TEST, the increase in the number of students who will pass the University Admission Tests.
