Peach-PLUS-Exchange
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

PEACH in Haifa, Israel and PLUS in Mannheim, Germany are community based centres that provide support for young lgbt people. The participants of the youth exchange all come from lgbt youth groups and therefor all are aware of discrimination and in the need to strengthen their personality to stand for their needs and dreams. The young people from PEACH and PLUS prepare the program of the exchange and a presentation of their situation as lgbt youth. Therefore they will reflect the political and personal situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) people in Germany and Israel. They also initiate contact with members of the municipality of Haifa and the Mannheim town council. During the exchange the young lgbt people will learn from each other and gain strength to fight for democracy and tolerance in their cities. The Main activity is a Youth exchange between PLUS from Mannheim working together with PEACH from Haifa. The first trip is to Haifa with trips to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Acre. The planned dates are from 7th to 13th June 2015. The second trip is to Mannheim, planned from the 8th to the 14th of August. The working methods for both activities are methods of social learning, group building, integral learning on guided tours, learning by teaching with presentations for the other young people, discovery learning and intercultural exchange. An important role in the learning experience plays the direct experience of political exchange at the talk with the municipality in Haifa and with the mayor and members of the town council in Mannheim as well as the experience of political action at the gay pride parades in Tel Aviv and Mannheim. These experiences will allow them to reflect the possibilities and borders for lgbt young people in the two countries. They will also reflect their personal situation under the perspective of the unique relation between Israel and Germany. Afterwards the young people in Mannheim and Haifa will have a better understanding of their possibilities to participate in political action. They will have gained personal power out of the experience to find young people with similar and also different life experiences abroad. They will have a better understanding of intercultural and interreligious differences and how to cope with it. The organisations PLUS and PEACH will have gained more public and political interest on the situation of lgbt youth and the diversity within the lgbt community. The lgbt community in Mannheim, Haifa and Tel Aviv will have given the chance to see the involvement of young lgbt and their perspectives on the diversity of the community. On the long run theparticipants will become people who are aware of their political possibilities and the values of the EU and its partner countries.
