Peace by Piece will send two young Estonians to serýe as a volunteer in Langa, South Africa for a period Of 9 months. The volunteers will work at Siyaphamb'ili Orphan Group, an organization devoted to using peer education and non-formal learning to support children and youth orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The volunteers will help to implement existing after-school activities and work with the organization's team to develop new non-formal education programs for youngsters living in the 400,000-person urban township in Cape Town. The EVS will also engage in organizational development, helping to build a website and organize current volunteer activities in an effort to' promote capacity building and European-African cooperation in the field of youth work. The volunteers will culturally immerse in a black South African township, speak English at work and learn the Xhosa language in the community. Peace by Piece will promote learning of new skills and methods in youth 'development and sharing of European experiences with South Africans. Living and working in the township, a place designated for the black population during the Apartheid era, will allow the volunteers a unique opportunity to study the post-conflict resolution methods of South Africa following the fall of Apartheid. The volunteers will return to their native Estonia equipped with new experience and skills that will increase their capacity to engage in the field of Estonian and European youth work.
