Partycipate
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

In addition to the coordinating Regional School Bureau, Ufficio Scolastico Regionale (USR) Toscana, our consortium includes 4 schools of the Prato and Pistoia Provinces: the Istituto Omnicomprensivo of San Marcello Pistoiese (PT), the Istituto Comprensivo "A. Roncalli - G. Galilei" of Pistoia, the Istituto Comprensivo "Bartolomeo Sestini" of Agliana (PT) and the Liceo Scientifico Statale "Niccolò Copernico" of Prato. Sharing the intention of progressing inside a European and International formative context, these primary and secondary schools have in the past activated Comenius and/or Erasmus plus (KA2)projects and favoured exchanges and collaborations with both European and non European schools, in addition to setting up studying weeks abroad, to strengthen the European dimension of students, teachers, families and local communities. In a logic of cooperation (also apparent in our title, Partycipate) and in a European dimension, our consortium aims at facing the needs and problems common to its member schools. These schools, located in the same metropolitan area, share very similar social and cultural issues and have therefore identified in the network provided by the consortium an opportunity to face together the challenges of a social context more and more marked by recession, and by the growing issues connected with interculture and of a still high (though diminishing) early school leaving rate inside the compulsory system (approx 18%) – with respect to European benchmarks. With its action of enhancing the development of key-competencies, our curricular planning takes on a central role, presenting a formative itinerary intentionally and organically devised and carried out by our teachers who, together, agree on teaching and methodological solutions for the promotion of motivation to learning, and, as a consequence, for the students’ success in order to reduce the level of early school leaving inside compulsory education. On the other hand, devising a curriculum requires a strong planning commitment shared by all school units and members. The ability to mediate among parties becomes fundamental: among teachers but also among the ‘networking’ schools.Inside our intended view of the continuity and unity of the formative itinerary, the strong bond between curricolar planning of competences and their certifications becomes apparent. To our priorities correspond our planned formative actions inside the mobility projects presented, entailing our participation in structures courses and the observation work of job shadowing at selected European partner schools. The communication between the consortium members and with the hosting institutions will take place via e-mail, e-Twinning, bidirectional communication platforms (Skype, GoToMeeting), chats and instant messaging (Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk). In addition, the consortium teachers will periodically take part in planned meetings coordinated by USR, whose constant supervision will grant equal involvement and sharing of resources. An articulate board representing all the consortium schools and USR will select aspiring candidates – with the evidence of previous participation in pertinent projects/actions/ courses also abroad - on the basis of their interest towards the topics dealt with in the courses and actions devised, of language competences and especially of the readiness to share what learnt in the actions with adequate subsequent dissemination inside individual schools and with the networking ones. The selected teachers will then take part in preliminary preparation courses on the current national and European laws inherent our topics of study and /or preparatory language courses when necessary. During mobility, the development of the planned activities will be monitored by filling in carefully devised grids and by the writing of a journal. The collected material and the reflections on the results of the formative itinerary will be shared inside the schools of the consortium, which will also divulge this material in adequate spaces inside their websites, by horizontal in-service training courses and through the experimenting of the planned teaching activities and model certification of competences devised in the light of the actions of the project. The latter will then be shared with the other schools of the Prato and Pistoia provinces by the organization of seminars/conferences, always under the consortium coordination and support of the Regional School Bureau, USR.
