Parallel Lives - MARDI
Start date: Dec 1, 2008,

The project aims to track the lives of young people within our communities who may suffer disadvantage through language and cultural barriers, host community prejudice, and barriers to education. The project will include participants from the "host community" who will work with and alongside youth from "new communities,", or communities who have been excluded from mainstream society. The title "parallel lives" aims to highlight the difficulties faced by youth who are under pressure to "fit in", and also under a different set of constraints from family, cultural and religious influences. The youth will work together to promote active citizenship, social inclusion, and cultural understanding and awareness. Each partner country will produce a youth newsheet and community booklet, and promote an event that brings together youth from diverse backgrounds and communities, to highlight and showcase culture, arts, new media , photo-journalism, food, music and dance. The project includes a visit from the partner countries to brainstorm, evaluate, and plan how to maximise the effect of the project, with 3 young people (l8 and over) visiting from each partner country for four days.
