Papaya Network
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Papaya Network is a European network of youngsters (that were part of The Generosity Experience in 2012) with the main objective to share information and experiences: to teach and learn (without a teacher) and to bounce off ideas of one another. It is the result of the common desire (from the Belgian, Danish and French group) to launch a next phase in our research of the senses on a transnational level. They choose to work internationally because it enriches the project with different sensitivities that are embedded in their cultures. Their groups are very diverse on an educational, professional and personal level, which brings together a unique set of knowledge, skills and point of views. They want to deploy this diversity in order to challenge themselves in different objectives:#SENSORIAL RESEARCHThey met each other during a Creative Europe project with the main focus on generosity. This project worked with the language of the senses and how you can use the senses to initiate meetings with people you don't share the same language or culture with. They want to explore sensorial language in order to find out how they can use the senses to facilitate communication. They hope they'll be able to distinguish differences or similarities in how interaction works between people with diverse backgrounds. They expect to be better at expressing ideas and feelings, be more tolerant and be better at empathising with people who are different from them.#WORKING TOGETHERThey want to explore how they can work on a more frequent basis on a transnational level: what are the difficulties and how can you deal with them? How can you work together, transcending frontiers? They expect to have more confidence and be more self-reliant, as well as learn more about how to cooperate in a team.#CREATIVE DEVELOPMENTThis project is completely based on the talents and creativity of every participant. How can we use and stretch our creative minds in different fields: research of the senses, organisation, communication, etc.? They hope to find a work form that allows them to be the most creative in order to implement it in future projects. We expect to be more able to develop an idea and put it into practice.#FUTUREHow can we continue to work together on this theme of the senses? How can we continue to involve other youngsters and create a greater outreach? They expect to come up with ideas for future transnational projects. They hope they'll have a clearer idea about their professional career aspirations and establish contacts with people in other countries which they find useful for their professional development. They're planning 10 transnational meetings. 6 research gatherings, 2 future gatherings and 2 transnational project meetings (together with the first research gathering). For every transnational meeting they'll work on the objectives #creative development and #working together. During the research gatherings they'll focus on #sensorial research. During the future gatherings they'll focus on #future. For several research gathering they'll have the support of a local organisation (university, cultural centre, neighbourhood committee, centre for children with a disability, etc.) They want to offer them something in return for their (material) support by inviting their visitors on representations of our research. They hope these interactions with the visitors will open up their curiosity and openness towards people from other countries that they don't know, enjoying meeting people from different backgrounds. The main methodology is posing questions. Every transnational meeting works on a different pack of questions based on the inquiry of our objectives. Based on these questions, the youngsters use different working methods: brainstorm, conversation tables, workshops (given by the youngsters), group work and laboratories. This last mentioned method will be mainly used during the 'research gatherings'. Through experiment and association they'll tackle different questions on the senses and forms of encounters. While the workshops are moments of very focused participation, the laboratories allow the youngsters to create and study in depth.Papaya Network consists approximately of 20 youngsters: 5 Belgians, 7 French and 7 Danes. The participants are students or young professionals in various fields of work (architecture, social work, theatre, academic research, medicine, etc.). We engage to account the variety of opinions and cultures, as well as the connectedness with others, the environment and ourselves.
