Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Sep 1, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The idea of the project. Non-traditional lessons are becoming more and more popular aiming to motivate students and get them interested, to provide opportunities to apply the acquired knowledge into practice, to diversify the usual structure of a lesson. In this way a student widens his/her horizons, acquires new competencies, knowledge and skills. However, usually teachers, who state that they conduct non-traditional lessons, limit themselves to using new technologies or applying some relatively new method of teaching. Does the usage of modern technologies, new methods or location of a lesson really guarantee that the lesson is non-traditional? Currently teachers in Lithuania do not have enough experience in conducting non-traditional lessons; therefore participation in the project will enable teachers to share non-traditional ways of conducting a lesson of other countries. The objective of the project is to encourage teachers to pick up the experience of conducting non-traditional lessons that the EU teachers have, to practice it and pass it on to the colleagues who could apply the experience in everyday lessons, involving students into various activities, teaching them to use non-traditional ways of learning. The tasks of the project: 1. To pick up the experience of conducting non-traditional lessons that the EU teachers have. 2. To practise non-traditional ways of teaching during the lessons at school. 3. To pass the experience of conducting non-traditional lessons to the colleagues during a seminar. 4. To establish a system of conducting non-traditional lessons at school. 5. To share the experience gained in the project during the conference for the teachers’ community of the city. The results of the project: New non-traditional teaching methods, better quality of a lesson will make students learn in a more creative way, get them more involved in lesson activities and make them able to use theoretical knowledge in practice. The teachers, having gained experience in courses and partner-schools, will apply it in their lessons; students together with their teachers will create non-traditional learning space at school. Having assessed the impact of it on students, the teachers who participate in the project will form their own system of conducting non-traditional lessons and will share their experience with teachers from other schools during seminars. The impact on the participants of the project: Teachers-consultants will assess the effect of new teaching methods on students. Teachers of the school will pick up the experience and use it in teaching. The experience will be passed on to the teachers of Šiauliai during a seminar. Social partners (museums, public youth organisations) will be involved in organising non-traditional lessons or activities at schools. Teachers-consultants, school community members, social partners will have the possibility to pick up the systematised experience and apply it in improving the quality of non-traditional lessons. Six teachers are applying for the project: teachers of German, English, Ethics, Lithuanian and Theatre with 10 to 40 years of working experience. Two of them have not participated in projects before. One of them has not participated in teacher training courses abroad.
