"Our Back Row Students, Let's Call Them Back" project especially targets our students who have difficulty in adapting school life because of different social, cultural and economic reaons and as a result whose success is not at the expected level. We call them as “bak row students” and they are neglected in some ways. Our main objective in working hard for these students is to call these students who need special education, who are disadvantaged, who require early support, who continue their education in hospital schools due to health reasons back by offering them an individualised education programme as it is all they need to win them back.
That’s because we all know that a student who isn’t able to adapt school life totally, who doesn’t feel confident at school environment, whose emotional and motivational needs and wishes are not covered can not achieve the expected success in more complex content.
As a school aware of all these factors we start our project with the motto “Each Pupil is Special and Ours.”. Our purpose in choosing the motto is to present our pupils, who are disadvantaged compared to their peers, individualised education opportunities aiming at meeting their needs at the most basic level.
Thanks to the course we choose “Each Pupil is Special” in Finland, our education staff who are involved in the project owing to very strong and valid reasons will take part in an activity session for a week in a European country which is very successful in the specialised education. This course meets our requirements as it addresses our disadvantaged students needing early support in and having their education in hospital schools.
At the end of this course, our staff will put the achieved results and contributions in the most required area of education into practice in order to improve the quality of our school and enrichen the learning atmosphere.
In other ways, our school has the significant necessity to participate such international and intercultural educational sessions in order to eliminate their weakness in internationalised area.
At that point as a school we are aware that it seems impossible to achieve our internationalising objective without a high quality, communication oriented foreign language teaching. It is also not possible for us to integrate into European education system which achieve successful results and have a healthy dialogue with our colleagues who use he newest methods without visiting and observing their effective teaching on practice.
In order to improve our foreign language teaching quality and adopt a comminication oriented approach, we select a second course about “Blended Learning” in Ireland. It is a two-week course in which the participants will be informed about Blended learning that aims at teaching language skills by blending traditional and technology oriented methods.
At the end of this course we are determined to improve foreign language teaching quality in our school and take part in international projects as more competent participants.
Each of the participant of these activities from our school is aware of the necessity and importance of internationalising. Our participants are teachers who adopt the universal values of global peace, tolerance, democracy and oppose any kind of discrimination as all these are totally valued in European communities and in European schools in the same way.
We divide our activity programme in three parts as pre-activity, activity and post-activity. In each part we design an concrete and cooperative involvement plan as expressed in other parts of our application.
During this process, we will follow an approach in which everyone will be open to cooperation and institutional corporation, every participant will be involved with their own knowledge and skills in a creative way.
We can list the possible expected long term impacts we foresee after our project is accomplished as below;
Our school experiencing an international project for the first time will add a universal point of view to its vision an mission which will also be integrated into European Union and as a result prepare suitable strategic plans accordingly.
Moreover, after realizing the Project targets and gaining more experience, our school and staff will improve not only their self confidence but also motivation which will result in being more volunteer and willing to work on other projects.
Teachers participating in the activities will be a positive models and information guide about such international facilities for their colleagues. This will automatically increase the cooperation and confidence between teachers and it will be reflected in the quality improvement objectives.
Our school as a participant of an international project will have a good reputation among our students and their parents which will increase their confidence to our school and have positive impacts on us as well.
