Ostomi’li Hastaların Hemşirelik Bakım Hizmetleri ve Topluma Kazandırılmaları Yönünde Destek Yaklaşımlarının Öğrenilmesi

This Project includes “Learning Support Approaches for Nursing Care Services for Patients with Ostomy and Reintroduction to the Society”. 30 participants and 4 companions were included in the project from project owner and partner institutions occupational health high school Nursing anf EMT departments. Care for patients with Ostomy before, during and after operation requires special information and skills. However, it is known that the issue of ostomy nursing is not well cared in our country. As there is no branching out in our country for ostomy, patients receive treatment and care in other services, generally in surgery services. Ostomy (surgery) is not a unit preferred by nurses due to intense work and the requirement of special knowledge and skill in care and people often work in this unit under obligation. One of our most important aims in this project is arousing interest and enthusiasm for ostomy nursing in our students to be graduated using the obtained abroad experience. As in all professions, it is also important in nursing in terms of branching out and professional competence. The general purpose of our project is ensuring the upbringing of nurses and EMTs (Emergency Medical Technician) who will be able to plan and execute health care systems benefiting from modern information and technologies, who have universal occupational knowledge and skills, who recognize the conditions of our country and facts about health, who know the needs and priorities of the society and who are equipped with ethical values. Our project aims at gaining our participants knowledge and experience in Ostomy nursing and emergency care services at the level of EU member countries. It is tried with our Project to contribute to the upbringing of qualified personnel with knowledge at European level. Also; We have realized a project for the purposes of; Contributing to the establishment of the consciousness of being a European by cooperating with EU, Providing qualified personnel for health sector; increasing employment, Ensuring that the participants compare the education in our country with the education received in the host country, to determine differences and transfer the positive ones, Ensuring that the participants have the opportunity to have a professional view on health personnel relations in the host country and develop their communication skills. 30 participant students between 16-18 ages from our institution and common local institution, the nursing departments of Anatolian Health Occupational High Schools (AHOHS) were included in our project. Nursing and EMT department students are appointed in any area of institutions/organizations of health or regarding health during and after their 4-year education and training. Nursing department students receive occupational classes after 9th grade such as disease-specific care, society/mental/female/child health, first aid etc. Within the scope of community service they provide health education and service (diet, first aid, blood sugar/TA measurement etc.) in the school and schools in neighbourhood. They do internship in work places for 3 days/24 hours in a week in 11th and 12th grade. Our participants gained knowledge and skills for preparing ostomy patients for operation, taking measurements against risk that may be encountered during operation, providing special care after operation, informing the patient and patient’s relatives, removing anxiety, encouraging the patient to realize self-care for ostomy, supporting, gaining the individual care skill by a good education, supporting the patient to be comfortable at home, work place and all areas of social life, to be reintroduced to the society and embrace his/her own body, making recommendations regarding the solutions for the problems encountered in periodical tracking and sustaining daily life activities and achieved the occupational targets of the project. They developed themselves in keeping records, making clinical researches and examining the applications and systems on the issue. They observed new technologies in place. Also, our participants gained skills on developing a new style of thinking by drawing attention to the qualities of the care of ostomy patients by increasing the awareness across the country by the education they received. Our country, which is in EU membership process, attaches importance to the upbringing of health personnel in European standards in occupational and technical education. Therefore, skills of our participants who receive education in human health dimension of occupational education to recognize these standards closely and transferring the applications to their professional lives have developed with our project. Placement duration of the project is 4 weeks.
