ORPESA – Vocational educational training for organic rice production in environmentally sensitive areas

The project will create a VET programme supporting organic rice conversion and production in environmentally sensitive areas. The project aims at preparing farmers and managers for their contemporary role of both users and custodians of natural resources in low-lying wetlands. The target group includes anyone involved in rice production, first of all VET teachers. The aim is to develop a VET course containing the mechanics of conversion to organic production, environmental issues to be co-managed in wetland rice farms and the long-term survival options, incorporating subsidiary options, such as ecological tourism. Two courses with training methodology will be produced at initial VET and postgraduate level. An user information package and student learning package will be prepared in CD-form. A website for information, dissemination and networking will be established containing an unrestricted public part, registered part for project partners, an on-line training support and information library for the pilot groups. The training material will be available in CD and downloadable format in Internet, in Spanish, French and Italian. Dissemination will happen on the website, mailing lists, press releases, through direct telephone contact campaigns and national networks of partners and targeted also to respective organisations, officials and stakeholders such as training organisations and professional associations. Participating countries: ES, NL, IT, PL, FR.
