ΟΡΓΑΝΩΣΗ ΚΑΙ ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΙΑ ΜΟΝΑΔΩΝ ΑΝΑΚΥΚΛΩΣΗΣ ΑΕΚΚ
Start date: Jun 1, 2014, End date: May 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since 2008, when the European Union Waste Management Framework was amended, an organized effort has been launched in order to spread Construction and Demolition Waste (C&DW) handling and recycling, among other streams. This practice has already been developed in many European countries, however in Greece a shift towards this direction has been made only recently. Having realized this prospect, the organization’s administration has identified the need to prepare its members for this perspective, through providing them with training on requirements, methodology and necessary equipment to organize and operate C&DW plants, but also on mechanisms through which recycled products can be reused and commercially exploited. Potential beneficiaries of this mobility project will be executive, production, human resources and technical managers of small and medium enterprises operating in the wider construction industry. They are the people who bear the responsibility to instill mentality, as well as define and ensure their firms’ path towards sustainability and growth, by preparing and educating staff in their jurisdiction accordingly. Some basic educational needs of potential beneficiaries are: - Reduced environmental awareness - Limited knowledge on C&DW recycling operational standards - Limited knowledge on C&DW handling processes - Limited expertise regarding hazardous C&DW handling (e.g. asbestos handling) The program will be implemented in Italy, in collaboration with a hosting partner that has proven its sufficient expertise in recycling and extensive experience in organizing, implementing and supporting effective mobility schemes. The main objective of the project will be to raise knowledge and cultivate skills regarding environmental protection through organizing and operating C&DW recycling plants. The educational content of the program will focus on the following issues: 1) Complying with environmental conditions 2) C&DW recycling plants licensing 3) Spatial requirements for recycling plants 4) Organizing administration and functionality 5) Participating in alternative management systems 6) Participating in national and European collaborative structures and initiatives 7) Commercially exploiting recycling derivatives 8) Security standards and systems 9) Isolation and handling of hazardous waste 10) Quality assurance and quality control The educational activities of the program will feature theoretical and practical training, performed by the hosting partner in collaboration with a series of national and regional public bodies, renowned C&DW recycling companies, C&DW retrieval and handling companies and equipment manufacturers. Through implementation of the educational activities, participants will have the opportunity to assimilate knowledge and attributes essential in developing new skills and enhancing their personal and professional profiles. Among the expected results, are: - Understanding the importance of waste management for the environment, - Acquiring C&DW recycling experiences, - Acquiring administrative and production skills, - Exchanging views on practical problems rising in both countries, - Comparing experiences with sector representatives and other participants, - Forming innovative troubleshooting instruments, - Forming an ability to comply with European standards and policies, - Forming an ability to analyze retrieval, collection and handling systems, - Forming an ability recognize potential applications for recycled products, - Actively promote mobility for business and production. At the same time, through daily contact and interaction with the social and working environment, participants will have the opportunity to cultivate the sense of a unified European identity, within the context of a project with significant intercultural character. Apart from improving participants’ personal and professional characteristics and strengthening the organization’s extroversion, this program is expected to have a positive local aftereffect of introducing methods to control and reduce environmental impact and allow for the formation of C&DW recycling initiatives. It is estimated that the gradual increase in local activity of this type, will inevitably lead to the need for an integrated alternative C&DW management system to be applied on a regional level.
