Both social business incubators and coworking spaces have some common goals. They exist as infrastructure to promote social business, creative industries business and in case of coworking spaces also classical business. Coworking spaces provide global networking opportunities and being considered entrepreneurial and knowledge hubs what is a strong argument to support coworking concept development. Coworking counts for around 1.600 spaces in operations across Europe, due to its success it is one of the largest community based network of units. In Latvia co-working concept and social business support infrastructure is not well developed. SIC representative wants to observe best model(s) from Croatia and share this learning with potential stakeholders: municipalities, private sector and NGO's.
In 2014 Social innovation centre has executed study and identified that learning possibilities offered in Latvia about Social entrepreneurship are critically low. Only few Higher education institutions offer some course about SE, those are very limited courses or expensive. For instance Riga Stockholm School of Economics, offers course for 300 EUR. In Adult education sector, situation is even more dramatical. There are no adult education provider constantly running educational courses about SE.
For that reason, Social innovation centre has idea to develop module about social entrepreneurship, where observing of organisation such courses in different organisations is important learning.
In February 2015, SIC representative met University of Latvia Sociology faculty to discuss possible module development, where again, skills from abroad are critical for drafting module or curriculum and different stakeholders would join to create adult related social entrepreneurship course (module).
The overall objective of the project is to improve educational competence in adults sector about organizing educational courses in coworking spaces and social business incubators for existing and new startups, to promote successful social entrepreneurship.
The project has several sub-objectives/activities : a) shadowing and observations of operations of co-working space and organiation of educational process in Croatian organisation; b) competence sharing from Latvian organisation towards SE development and education realised in Latvia; 3) consultation over settling infrastructure for SE support in Latvia; 4) commonly joined application development possibilities for future calls.
