Oppiva ja kansainvälistyvä lukio
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Lauttakylä Upper secondary school is a medium-size upper secondary school located in Satakunta western Finland. Location in the middle of the country side and agricultural area is not the most attractive choice for students to choose their studies. We feel, however, the international activities as a part of schooling especially in this region to be a mean for students and their studies. We feel important to provide possibilities to experience foreign cultures in a safe and innovative environment. We are seeking new international aimes for our school by adding new international curriculum with five new courses of international activities. To accomplish our goals, we need education for our staff with new approach to school management, to new teaching methods and to new over traditional subject-based learning, which all our new courses are related to. We have chosen a voluntary group of teachers who represent different subjects so that we can combine our experineces from the educational courses to new internatiol curriculum. We are going to participate courses which increase our knowledge how to teach over the normal subject-based learning and we also want to emphasize our skills to use new tecnologies. A long-term goal is to find partners over normal project-based partnership to be more permanent, for example partner school. There are five teachers in this project representing school management, languages, mathematical subjects, natural sciences and humanities. Those who are participating to courses have committed to co-operate with non-participating staff. We will update our courses after each education and we will also form a eTwinning working project that is open for our future partners as well. The main goal of our project is to have international activities as our normal everyday school life. This new point of view could influence the number of applicants to our school in a positive way, and more important, it will increase the motivation of our students. In our opinion, international school life should not be limited to a small group of students but for all kinds of different learners, from low and high status students to succesful and those who barely pass. This encouragement is to all students and staff is one the highest value behind the project. We will investigate the number of participating students to new international courses. We also compare the international activities with the number of school applicants every year by making questionnaires.
