Within this project, the objective of our school, Helsinki Upper Secondary School of Visual Arts, is to improve the quality of the teaching by sending various teachers to teacher training courses and periods of job shadowing and by making international contacts in different European countries and by observing the teaching methods used in different schools in Europe. We aim at building a better, more modern and digital, and more international Upper Secondary School of Visual Arts where our students are given high level education that motivates and guides them to face the challenges of their future studies and working life. The participants in this program are 3 language teachers, one history teacher and four art teachers. All the participants choose courses that will give them the needed skills in the new technologies, digital competences and modern pedagogy which integrated different subjects around a common phenomenon. In order to continue being able to give high level art education in our school which is specialized in visual arts, the art teachers need to update their knowledge on contemporary art which is subject to constant change in Europa as well as everywhere else. The duration of the program is 24 months and its main objectives have been planned jointly with all the participants and the head master. All the benefits and knowledge obtained in the program will be shared with the school's entire teaching staff at the end of each activity. Each of the participant teachers is fully responsible for doing that. With the help of the staff training and job shadowing periods we hope to gain more knowledge and practical tools to face the challenges that the new web-based final exams and curricula in Upper Secondary Schools create in the future. In the long run this will result in a more international upper secondary school environment, and our students will become better prepared and more active as European citizens.
