Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The first project: One physical education teacher from Pärnu Rääma Basic School wishes to participate in an international summer course for physical education teachers in Finland, Vierumäki. The courses are held every two years and in 2014 it takes place for the 10th time. There will be lectors from all over the world introducing us the newest trends in the field of physical education. Apart from theoretical classes there will be practical work as well. Recent years have mainly concentrated on kids with special educational needs and figuring out how to integrate them into regular PE classes. One of our school's priorities is taking the distinctivness of each student into account and approaching them personally. I have been a board member of Estonian Physical Education Association (the body unifying all PE teachers in Estonia) since 2005. During the course in Vierumäki I am hoping to obtain useful information to later pass the knowledge on to other teachers in Estonia. One integral part of Estonian Physical Education Association is organizing courses for Estonian PE teachers. If we manage to fix the terms we are hoping to invite some of the lectors to participate in courses in Estonia as well. That way my participation in the international course would benefit all Estonian PE teachers. In Vierumäki I am looking to see how teachers from other countries approach their PE classes. Children's lack of physical activity and motivation to do sports is a problem not only in Estonia but in other countries too. What is more, every year the number of children with health issues arising during school years increases which ultimately affects their participation in PE classes as well. Another important topic that will be introduced in Vierumäki's programme by teachers from Finland, Sweden and Norway is integrating handicapped children into school's regular PE classes. The second project: The principal and physical education teacher/form master from Pärnu Rääma Basic School are participating in training organized by ITC International which concentrates on teaching children with special educational needs at regular schools. The purpose of the project is to acquire knowledge about such schools and see how teaching children with special needs in regular schools is arranged in other countries in order to utilize their experience in Estonian schools as well. Another goal of the project is to pass on obtained knowledge to all our Pärnu county colleagues working with aforementioned children. It is important to expand participants' worldview and give opportunities to communicate on both organizational and personal level, resulting in long-term or short-term collaborational projects. What is more, such projects simplify cooperation of school managements and teachers from different countries and different cultural backrounds.
