Open youth house is a form of youth work in Finland and it is done in the free time of the young people. Through open youth work approach the youth workers assists and guides the young people so that they could achieve a better control of their lives. The main objectives of this project to promote participation, european citizenship through culture and creativity. During most of the year, the volunteers will be involved in youth house activities with youngsters (age 7 to 18). The volunteer will take part in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the activities. The volunteer participates in the free-time activities with youngsters in the same way as the other employees. The working hours of the volunteer are in general from 13 am - 21 pm and the work takes place during weekdays and sometimes weekends. Volunteer will work 5 days a week 7 hours a day (4 evenings and 1 morning working day). A typical working day of the youth house activities for youth aged 13-18 years:Klo 13.00 work begins Klo 13-15 Planning of the day together with collegues Klo 15-20 Open youth house activity & group work Klo 20-20.30 evaluate the day with othersKlo 20.30-21.00 clossing A typical working day of the youth house for youngsters aged 7-18 years includes different kind of activities: It can be crafts, cooking, sports, competitions, movie nights, trips, events and camps or almost anything youngsters wish for. Every day is different! Youth leaders work in youth houses as adults and they try to activate the youngsters to healthy lifestyle with different activities and offer a safe place to hang out on free-time. In summertime the working hours and the tasks vary during the summer and there might be work during weekends as well. The volunteer will learn to work as an independent member of the work community and to take responsibility of the group. The volunteer will learn to work with youngsters and to act in fast-changing situations related to youngster’s behaviour and to act as an impartial mediator in situations of quarrel. The volunteer will also learn some Finnish and will develop his or her skills in the English language.We are looking for an adult person to join our activities who has the capacity to work with youngsters. We don't expect the volunteer to be artistically creative or to be musical etc., but we hope that the volunteer will be social and open-minded and enjoys working with youngsters. The volunteer is expected to have medium skill in the English language.
