Project "Open Arms, Jordan - Denmark" was a bilateral project between Dansk ICYE and East & West Center for Human Resources Development from Jordan. It is European voluntary Service project and involves two Danish volunteers who will spend 6 months in Jordan. The objectives of the project are: • To encourage intercultural dialogue between youth from Denmark and Jordan; • To develop cooperation between organizations from Middle East and Europe; • To enhance youth mobility in Denmark by providing European Voluntary Service in another country; • To develop youth and children English skills in Palestinian refugee camp and poor areas near Amman. The main tasks for volunteers will be to lead English lessons for kids in Palestinian refugee camps and in poor areas near Amman. Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan are almost 50 years old. At the moment Palestinian refugee camps have become part of cities however it is still a very poor area. Volunteer will implement activities in two of these camps – Gaza camp (refugees from Gaza region) and Suf camp. Sahab is neighborhood near Amman where the most of people are with low or very low income level. A lot of Syrian refugees are living there as well. Area is very industrialized and with a lot of social problems, including drug use, drop out of school. Volunteers will use non-formal education methods thus not only developing kids English skills but also developing their cooperation skills.
