Search for European Projects

On The Celtic Wave
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: Dec 1, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our area is rural and people mostly lives in small communities with few possibilities to have international contacts. By having international volunteer working together with local people we hope to make multiculturalism and internationality as a natural part of young people’s everyday life. The idea behind the project is to engourage young people for intercultural communication, shared learning and building up the resources of the young unemployed person. The volunteers will be active members of the working community and are also encouraged to bring their own culture and ideas for making the interaction work in both ways and to make all parties also value their own culture and values. The volunteers live and work in the same conditions as locals do and get to know thoroughly the everyday life in their hosting communities. We will host totally 3 volunteers in this project and young people with fewer opportunities are our main priority. The volunteers are youngsters enthusiastic to learn about other cultures and European realities, creative people with own ideas and motivation to do voluntary work. Our project meets the programme priorities as we work with such young people who does not have other possibilities to gain international experiences. We also encourage young people to actively participate in the society and to take responsibility for themselves and people nearby. Voluntary work is an excellent way to support young people to gain more initiative, to become more independent and at the same time develop their idea and thoughts about European citizenship. The idea is also to bring internationality into the everyday life of our local youngsters in order to make multiculturalism a visible and natural part of their everyday life. Inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities is our main priority, as through offering young people a chance to gain new experiences and finding their strengths we can help them to overcome different kind of obstacles and support them in finding creative paths into adulthood. The project is intended for young people with fewer opportunities, but who have an interest in working with young people and youth arts. The volunteers will be such young people who don’t have a lot of chances to travel and gain international experiences. This project offers young people a chance for participation, to learn to cooperate in a multicultural team and to develop their personal competences like language skills, organisational skills and also to learn new working methods. Further, the project will give the young people new experiences and skills, and this can improve their opportunities at the labour market in their home countries and therefore, the projects target youth unemployment. The volunteers will be given tasks, tools and support but an important aspect is that the young people’s ideas and thoughts will be encouraged and taken into consideration in their daily work tasks. This will empower the young people’s creativity and entrepreneurship.
