The project "Open school" is a project of lifelong teachers' training organised for the teachers who teach at Skofijska gimnazija Vipava. There are about thirty teachers employed at the school (not all of them work full time) and the school has decided to send nine teachers abroad: three natural science teachers, three social sciences/humanities teachers and three language teachers: four teachers are supposed to attend "job shadowing" at the French Secondary School (separately) and five are going to attend seminars abroad. All the mobilities last approx. one week.This application form is connected to the work of the school-development-team, which tries to detect possible minuses in school work and tries to plan some positive changes in order to eliminate them. With this application the school wishes to modernize the natural science lessons, the social science/humanities lessons and language lessons equally. We also want to prepare teachers for the possible future international cooperation(s).The school is going to choose the teachers on the basis of their motivation letters. After their return from the seminars/job shadowing the teachers are expected to share their experiences and their knowledge at regular monthly teachers' meetings and in the classes with the students. The school also expects that every teacher, who has attended the mobility, will invite his/her colleagues to attend his/her lessons (2 lesson observations with every participant teacher). Soon after the mobility is finished, every teacher will be invited to evaluate the mobility. The school is also going to take care for (inside and) outside dissemination. The teachers who will attend the seminars/job shadowing abroad are expected to gain professional knowledge and new pedagogical experiences; to refresh their language knowledge up to the point to be able to (at least orally) communicate in a foreign language and to become aware of the international European frame and to build the connection network with foreign schools and teachers. Most of the teachers will get in touch with the CLIL methodology (Content and Language Integrated Learning) - this way of teaching is also very present at the French school that we are connected with. The school is aware that the mobilities will mostly influence the teachers who will attend the mobility, but we also hope that the wider influence is going to be felt in the whole school. The participants are hoped to raise the general motivation for (different methods) teaching and the motivation to cooperate with school international projects and exchanges. It is even expected that they could bring fresh ideas connected to extracurricular activities. It is also expected that every participant teacher will make a small change in his/her yearly curriculum, mainly in the sense of making the knowledge more applicative and longer-lasting. The teachers are also expected to give some solid suggestions for the possible improvement of our school programme and to include the innovations as much as possible into the regular school work.
