Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main goal of the project is to increase proficiency of professional skills of students and to improve the quality of the learning process in woodworking industry, wooden structures and buildings so that it could be up to par with current technical and technological progress in this field. The project is designated for the 3rd grade students in two specialties. It builds on necessity to adapt the professional preparedness of students to demands of the workforce market. The project also encompasses two pedagogues teaching specific classes in the experimental area with concentration on wooden structures and buildings ; it shall expand their competencies in elected subjects. The experiment has been introduced only two years ago and the teachers, although all with MS degrees in the woodworking field, have had minimal exposure and experience with teaching the classes in the given profession area. Therefore, the participants of the project will undertake an internship at a partner site in the Czech Republic, where they will observe the practices of their more experienced counterparts, as relative to forms and methods of teaching process, literature and various tools utilisation.Students will be devided to two groups. The first group, consisting of 8 participants, will do the internship at Czech firms/factories that manufacture joinery and constructive products as well as the furniture. They will work on improving their practical skills, namely:- Reading blueprints and other technical documentation- Setting up the machines and tools and getting them ready for the working phase- Independant actual work according to blueprints, performed on the assigned machinery- Adhering to safety rules and regulations. The second group, entailing 10 participants will do an internship at a Czech educational institution with the aim to gain the following skills:- Design a simple wooden building and all its elements utilizing the SEMA software - Design an instruction set for the CNC machine- Actual manufacture of the elements of wooden building utilizing the CNC machine. To work on and improve the dextrity of students, the demo and actual practical learning methods will be used. The following are expected benefits for students participating in the internship program:1. To achieve dexterity in working with the most advanced technology in the woodworking industry – CNC machines2. To become familiar with the work conditions at a foreign factory in the real-time environment3. To develop/broaden social competenciesThe teachers are expected to benefit by:1. Acquiring a portfolio of educational methods suitable for the experimental specialty concentrated on wooden structures and buildings2. Enhancing their knowledge and practical skills The desirable impact of the project should translate in to an increased interest in educational specialties offered by the school, increased competitiveness of the school in the region and achieving comparable results with those schools that are already implementing the experimental specialty into practice and collecting results from this approach. The project will also bring advantages in the long run. The school sees the potential in the possibility of the continual exchange of skills among partners in the future, in a stable cooperation in realization of the international programs and in exchanges of students as well as pedagogues.
