Obey or not obey - the power of education through urban art
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Jan 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "Obey or not to obey- the power of education through urban art" was created in co-operation iof Art Square Luxembourg and Kulturfabrik. Both organizations implemented in 2014- 2015 the successful Urban Art Esch project and wished to share its educational out comes with international partners and learn from them through the form of the seminar. The project gathered in Luxembourg 22 participants from Poland, Italy, Egypt and Luxembourg. Over the 5 days, the participants had a chance to share their practices and create new methods for working with young people in urban space, where the active citizenship and revitalization of the public space was in focus. The project was linked with the Erasmus + objectives by: - contribution to the cohesive society - it gave the chance for various players (artists, educators, youth workers) to get involved into the dialogue about the public space - foster co-operation between the world of education and other sectors: cultural operators, politicians who take decisions about the public space, school teachers and educators from different countries. - disseminate the good practice that show the ideas on how to use the life long learning to complement the policy reforms (e.g. action plan for integration) - enhance the international dimension of education, training and culture. During the project we used the methods of Open Space, Design Thinking and public interaction in the city of Esch. The inhabitants of the city as well as local politicians and young people were invited to the public event that took place at the end of the project. Through non-formal learning methods, the participants exchanged best practices and their ideas regarding the use of urban art as a tool for social inclusion and social dialogue. The project changed the perception of many people about urban art and transform urban spaces into creative hubs and open air galleries. This should function as a bridge between the policy makers and the locals of the city and enhance the dialogue about the potential of urban art for solving social problems (inclusion of youth, participation, life-long learning).
