NUOVI SCENARI...LA SCUOLA RISPONDE
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Institute G.D Romagnosi is composed of a technical commercial institute and a vocational institute for business and social studies. The school leaving certificates allow both an easy access to the world of work and the admission to all universities or higher education courses. The institute excels in the inclusion of a high number of immigrant students (about 30%) and high quota of students with disabilities who are offered special education plans and projects. Traditionally the institute promotes projects in cooperation with local organizations, companies and universities not only in professional but also in cultural, social and sport areas. Since both foreign languages and new technologies are considered essential elements in educational and professional areas, staff's relevant training needs have been detected with regard to foreign languages teaching and learning, new technologies for teaching and CLIL methodology aimed at multidisciplinary activities, CLIL projects and international cooperation. Therefore the objective of this project is the improvement of foreign languages, ICT and methodological skills and competences to let teachers modify their teaching style and promote activities aimed at the modernisation and internationalisation of the institute. The birth of a European cultural awareness is awaited both in the teachers and in students allowing them to acquire key competences in European citizenship . Twenty-three participants to the mobility project will be selected by a dedicated commission among teachers of all subjects with an expected knowledge of the English language , levels A2-B1 and B1+-B2 . They will attend either language, CLIL methodology or ICT for teaching training courses. Four participants will be selected among English as a foreign language teachers and they will attend a methodology training course to improve the effectivess of foreign language teaching and /or they will take part in structured study visits at European educational institutions in Finland and Germany. The headmaster will follow a language course and two structured study-visits . The selected courses are offered by the partner institution English Matters which has been contacted through the Erasmus plus tool School Education Gateway and which can effectively support the development of professional skills and competences through staff's training programmes at European institutions. The project development involves the constant commitment of the dedicated commission which will follow all the phases: application and project planning , selection of the candidates and pre-mobility preparation activities, , follow-up , dissemination of results and long-term sustainability, implementation of the evalution plan. The institute expects a change in terms of knowledge , skills and attitudes for all participants with a multi-level impact on school staff, students, local schools and organizations, partner schools in Europe. The dissemination plan involves both activities inside and outside our school, such as design of lesson models, organization of training workshops for internal and external school staff, creation of a CLIL projects handbook and articles in local newspapers The results are expected to have a short and long- term impact on the school image which will hopefully lead to an increase in the number of students applying for technical and vocational courses in our school and consequently to a decreased number of students Ieaving school early. Moreover the local community will be made aware of the relevance for young people and citizens in general of the new European dimension of our society.
