Project summaryThe EOI Ávila is a public funded school of languages where we teach English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish as a foreign language. Our studies are based on a communicative approach. Our learners’ ages and profiles range from secondary school students (16 years old and up), university students trying to complement their training before entering the labour market; through adults looking to enjoy while learning a second language, or workers from different fields learning languages in order to improve their professional profile. In this sense, our school is becoming more and more focused on the importance of professional training for members of the educational community, especially those working at bilingual schools. Our studies are divided into: basic level (two school years), intermediate level (two school years), advanced level (two school years), and C1 (one school year, offered only for English and French). After successfully finishing each one of these levels, the students are awarded one of the following CEFR certificates: A1, B1, B2, and C1. At the EOI Avila, 29 teachers tutor 1150 students in the main school in Ávila or any one of the four smaller schools spread around the province (Arenas de San Pedro, Cebreros, Piedralaves, or Las Navas del Marqués).Our institution has always been committed to teaching through communicative methodologies as well as concerned by the refreshing of our staff’s linguistic competence. To reach the high quality level that our educational community demands, we are applying for training in language, methodology, culture and use of new technologies. As part of our self-assessment routine in 2015, the managing team found out the main points for improvement in our institution. Namely, the teaching and learning of foreign languages, the culture of the country where the language taught is spoken, and the use of ICT and digital competence. All the staff was offered the opportunity to apply in the project, information and useful links were sent. After this process, three teachers decided to devise the present project with the help of the Head of Studies and Head of the School:- Two teachers from the French department- One teacher from the English departmentAll of them are professionals with great organising skills and a great interest in improving their linguistic and cultural competence further yet. Since we are a specialised language school, our teaching staff needs regular linguistic immersion programmes to offer our students efficient quality training and to keep improving their own academic training. The following 3 training courses, organized by different European educational institutions, have been chosen:1.- "Actualisation de connaissances en culture française", Vichy (FRANCE) – Déborah Surace (Head of Extracurricular Activities) (Language and Culture)2.- "Stage pour professeurs 2016: Formation d'été pour professeurs de français et de FLE", Perpignan (FRANCE) – Belén LLorente (Head of the French Department) (Focus on New technologies)3.- "Contemporary English", Cambridge (UNITED KINGDOM) – Mónica Elena (Former coordinator of the English Department)Our school, all the teaching staff and our students will benefit from the training programme in terms of the development of their personal and professional competences, in the short, medium and long term. The majority of our teachers are Non Native Teachers of the language, therefore, updating our language and cultural level in order to keep up with the high demands of training students at C1 level is a priority. Also, the use of ICT is ever more common in everyday teaching and all teachers and students in our five schools around the province will benefit from the knowledge acquired by these three participants. With the aim of disseminating the knowledge gained, we will organize a three session course through the 'CFIE' (the local Teachers and Resources Centre. The course will be designed and taught by the teachers who take the courses mentioned above, and it will be aimed at colleagues from our school and from other nearby schools. It will consist of information sessions, to share the new knowledge acquired. In these sessions innovative methodological strategies learnt during the courses will be presented and sociocultural aspects will be updated. Also, subjects such as how to introduce a European dimension into all the different activities organized by our educational establishment will be dealt with. As well as this, professional articles for the digital magazine of our school (or other Official Language School's) will be written.
