Modern and International School is an European Union funded project involving teachers from Secondary School No. 5 in Ruda Slaska. The participants will gain knowledge and skills, in which they will be able to shape young people in our school to take on challenges, develop their interests and gain experience in international projects in the future. It is important for our teachers to develop their personal competence in the field of innovative and attractive teaching methods. It will help to make classes more enjoyable, teach students more effectively and motivate them to learn, reducing early school leaving. Foreign trips, courses and training, including collaboration with teachers from other countries will also help to spread a real positive impact upon our students. We want our school to become a place where different cultures and traditions meet and becomes a place of best practice in the experience of international exchange. Expanding knowledge on other cultures, languages, traditions, is at the very heart of the project. It will encourage the development of our students interests on many different levels. A modern school needs to understand the importance of social media amongst other important subjects, which is why our teachers will participate in training and sharing of best practice in improving a variety of key skills in this area. The project will allow twelve teachers from our school to improve their competence during language courses and training on various subjects. There will be eight participants in our project. They will develope their language skills and take part in courses developing knowledge on particular subjects. All participants will go to the UK to attend language courses in order to improve their language skills. The next year teachers will be divided into two groups. First group consisting of headmaster, psychologist, chemistry and geography teacher will attend following courses: SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE CLASSROOM and WEB PLATFORMS FOR THE CLASSROOM. They will expand their interests and enrich their own knowledge of social media and new technologies, this in turn will have a positive impact upon students motivation to learn. Second group (Polish language, mathematics and physical education teachers are going to attend following two courses: A SATISFACTORY SCHOOL EXPERIENCE: STRATEGIES AND SKILLS FOR TEACHERS and CONFLICT MANAGEMENT, PEER MEDIATION AND EMOTIONAL LITERACY IN THE CLASSROOM. They will improve their knowledge and learn about new and attractive for students teaching methods. Developing their competences they will be able to raise an interest on the diversity of languages and history of European countries among students. We believe that the project will bring long-term benefits to the school, such as reducing early school leaving, establishing international contacts and enhancing the European element of our school. This will affect the prestige of the school, but more importantly, it will also affect students motivation to take interest in matters related not only to education, but also connected to their own interests. We hope to enhance student engagement as well and improve communication among students and teachers.
