Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The youth exchange Nordic Youth Meeting 2016 MY CHOISE - OUR WORLD is organized by 6 different organizations which come from Armenia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania and the Russian Federation. The applying organization is Liperin vapaa-aikatoimi, representing Finland. The youth exchange will be held in Liperi, Finland from 19th until 26th of July (including traveling days). Some of the organizations are NGOs and some are public bodies and they all do youth work. Co-operation between organizations has continued since 2009, when the first Nordic Youth Meeting was organized in Denmark. The participating youngsters are between the ages of 13 to 17. There will be 6 participants and two group leaders from every organization. Gender balance between sexes is 50% / 50%. They are selected among the youngsters who are involved in the youth work of the organizations. Interest in environmental questions is part of the selection criteria. The selection also considers enabling participation for those who live outside of community centers or for those considered to get an advantage for their personal development Participating organizations and youngsters have decided the theme together in 2015, when we had a youth exchange in Armenia. Youngsters were concerned about climate change and wondered what they can do to stop it. Is there any chance for a person to do something? This was the starting point for this year’s youth exchange. Finnish youngsters have had a main role in planning the program and all organizations have given their comments during the process. The preparatory meeting will be held from 24th – 27th of May (including travelling days). One leader and one youngster per each group and 3 leaders and two youngsters from Finland will make the final plan for the exchange. During the preparatory meeting we’ll check the accommodation, all activity areas and decide the responsibilities of each activity between the groups. During the exchange, the main activities are group works, workshops and excursions. We’ll use different kinds of methods, like games, talks, art and outdoor activities to study environmental subjects. We want to learn what kind of impacts we have on the environment with our everyday choices. All groups have two homework assignments. One is to make an environmental project at home and the other is to study essential elements of their culture. Both projects will be presented to others during the youth exchange.During this exchange youngsters will learn communication skills in English and their first language, different activities allow them to find out how to solve problems in a constructive and democratic way, and they will learn about different cultures. By doing different projects, the youngsters will realize they can change the environment. This will improve their active citizenship. Sustainable development will become part of their decision making process. Organizations will strengthen their international co-operation and project management. Youth leaders will improve their professional skills, and all the methods used in workshops will be put into practice in other projects and daily work. Participants will write down all their learning experiences during their homework assignments and the exchange. Those notes will be used when learning outcomes are listed in Youth Passes. After the youth exchange all participating organizations will share the results with their own community.
