NOn Formal Environmental Education
Start date: Feb 25, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Non Formal Environmental Education (NOFEE) project suggests the introduction and promotion of non formal techniques in all the possible means of environmental education. At the same time, ways that will develop the creativity and entrepreneurship of the young participants will be introduced. This will have a multiple effect not only on themselves but on the whole European community as well. It will promote the essential environmental consciousness, which will eventually lead to a higher quality of life for all, but it will additionally contribute in the reduction of unemployment and especially the one of young people through the potential establishment of new "green" business activities. During an 8-day training workshop youth workers, experts in environmental education, tried to interact with the participants and motivate them towards more innovative and eco-friendly ideas. Three trainers, experts in non formal and also to environmental education (Two from Cyprus and one from Poland) tried to give ideas but also to receive ideas about non formal education which is in relevance with environmental issues Also in the training there were two persons from Cyprus as support for the whole training and for all needs of the participants. In the training participated three youth workers from each of the nine organisations (27 youth workers). They were concerned about the environment and work with young people either in their organisations or in there work. These youth workers wanted to know new techniques about teaching with Non Formal Education (playing, acting, role playing and others) subjects about environment (caring about environment, protecting of the environment, renewable energy sources, biodiversity) We were aiming in (a) introducing new methods of non formal education related to environment to the youth workers of the partner institutions, (b) promoting environmental awareness of young people, (c) developing the right for a healthy environment and lifestyle for all people in the world, (d) encouraging young people to engage in professions that have to deal with the environment, thus contributing to the problem of unemployment and (e) increasing entrepreneurship among young people. In addition, participants improved key competences, such communication and learning skills, they strengthened their bonds with European citizens from different regions or countries. One of our side goals, of a more social dimension, was to eliminate discrimination and racism among young people. This will be achieved by the fact that participants will be of different social status and from ten EU countries. A lot of activities taught to young people so to make them sensitive about our environment. We can conclude to the following activities: (a) Creating, Building, Finalizing, representing my Green Company or Green Youth Project: These activities (a series of activities) can be used on schools in lessons which they have to do with entrepreneurship either for environment or for any other object you want to make them think creatively and expressing their opinion, their ideas and their thoughts. All this will be under some regulations so to make them active and also to improve their critical thinking of taking their thoughts into actions. This also can happen to a series of lessons about entrepreneurship in schools, organisations and generally anywhere we want young people to be active, either for ideas about environment, about civilization, about democracy, about human rights about discrimination and many other things where we want the young people to be active. (b) Cyprus island, Web of Life, Let every voice to be heard, fishermen, Living in a perfect world, Environmental exchange box: All these activities can be taught in schools making all students to be more concerning about environment. They were gaming activities which they are dealing with renewable energy sources, concerning about environment, saving environment , biodiversity and more. All these activities are been taught in schools by the 2 of the 3 trainers and students were excited and they wanted to participating in all the activities. Nice and good activities where you can learn a lot of things about environment through interactive games and fun. The most of the activities can be fount in Compass (European Handbook for Non Formal Education) (c) Take a step forward: Role playing activity for discrimination. We want a Europe without any lines and any characterizations in people. A pleasant activity who brought all participants to the place of people that they are leaving discrimination each single day. The proposed approaches can be applied from school teachers, NGOs, groups of environmentalists or even from local or national authorities in order to enhance the environmental awareness of young scholars and our aim is to inspire similar actions from other European countries.
