Nógrádi Nemzetközi Folklór és Gasztronómiai Fesztivál / Novohradský Medzinárodný Folklórny a Gastronomický Festival (Nógrádi Nemzetközi Fesztivál / Novohradský Medzinárodný Festival)
Start date: Mar 31, 2009, End date: Nov 29, 2009 PROJECT  FINISHED

Both county municipalities collaborate in strengthening their relationship in economics, culture and tourism since they struggle with similar problems. In 2008, the municipalities created a joint development programme which contains the renewal, expansion and organization of the Nógrád International Folklore Festival. The joint projects aiming at the development of culture, tourism and economics can improve the standards of living. Despite the common goals and intentions, the extent of cooperation failed to achieve the desired level; the number of joint cultural programmes is insignificant compared with opportunities and demands. As an exception of this, the tradition of folklore festival series must be mentioned the 14th of which is intended to be organized significantly extended with a brand new profile and new content elements (e.g. roma children´s programme). The XIV. Nógrád International Folklore and Gastronomy Festival goes beyond its traditions since it is not only a series of programmes but also widens the scope of interests, strengthens tolerance, has educative benefits and shapes the popular taste. The festival has not only local importance but also regional, national and international significance. Its regional significance lies in the fact that the festival contributes to the strengthening of the cross-border Hungarian-Slovakian relationship both in the area of culture and tourism. The number of visitors at the 26 programmes is expected to reach 20.000. Achievements: Both Nógrád and Banská Bystrica county municipalities have been working together on strengthening their relationship in economics, culture and tourism since they struggle with similar problems. In 2008, the municipalities created a joint development programme which contained the renewal, expansion and organization of the already existing Nógrád International Folklore Festival. This festival surpassed its traditions since it was not only a series of programmes but 26 events were organized in several locations on both sides of the border. Dance, music and gastronomy were familiarized and transmitted through generations. The performers of the festival also transferred the massage of intercultural cooperation: in addition to the two countries (Hungary and Slovakia), groups from Poland, The Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Belgium, Serbia and Indonesia were present.
