No Hate, just Skate!
Start date: Jun 25, 2014, End date: Feb 28, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In the last years the youth problems appear in various forms such as bullying, aggression, apathy, demotivation etc. and it has become phenomenon which is awaking increasing worries. The adolescents are the most vulnerable population to harmful/damaging lifestyles (smoking, alcohol, diet, use of illegal substances…), and the social complexity that characterised the everyday life of the youths at this age makes it necessary that this area of intervention is taken as a priority and it follows the youths through their growth. The state of existential discomfort appears in the adaptation difficulties (most of the time with a relationship basis) and in cases where the youth is exposed to judgement. In this context is the construct of the personal identity particularly important, as well as the variable psychology of this very important period of development. It is exactly when the youth don´t succeed at expressing their own personality which results, in the worst cases - in the deviant or damaging behaviour such as drug abuse, alcohol, bullying, youth delinquency - the factors that can have serious consequences for youths themselves. This project intends to support and foster the processes of social inclusion and it is aimed to young people at risk of social exclusion. The reference target is very broad: unfortunately, there are lot of people involved in these processes, and there are also lot of reasons and contexts. Therefore, to provide an effective approach, the international partnership has decided to face the subject of social inclusion by referring to the variety of disadvantages present at each participating community. Taking into consideration the target group it was decided to use the non-formal methodology as the most appropriate tool for achieving the intended overall objectives. After analysing the needs of these young people and their priorities, we have identified from sport the key activities which could bring a real involvement of the target group. In particular, it was decided to focus on roller blading, skating, scooters and skateboarding. The specific objective of this project is ambitious, but at the same time exciting and tempting. The creation of the skating team from the involved youths enables them to continue this adventure in their communities also after the end of this project. Sub-objectives expected from this project: 1. To develop the idea of fair competition among youths, that does not bring winners and losers but engagement and cooperation 2. To stop the isolation of the youths and create relationships 3. To stimulate active participation and open-minded thinking 4. To motivate towards outdoor sport activities There was a consultation and constant participation of the youths themselves who could have given advices and inputs to shape the project in the right way and to put the youth workers in a position where they could have better balanced the activities as well as applied diverse methodologies. During the project we'll use a non-formal methodology such as games, exercises, simulations, role-playing game, this type of approach fits well with “having fun”, which is an intrinsic of the project and ensures that young people feel more active and stimulated. Thanks to this project children and youngsters will have an opportunity to get to know new people, make new friendships, to implement different activities, to travel and discover new places and cultures. This way will lead to a greater awareness of their abilities, as well as it will develop a sense of belonging, friendship and healthy competition. There will be 25youngsters (gender balanced and6leaders) participating on the project between the ages 18-25 from whom at least half will be youths with fewer opportunities. The project´s expected impact on the participants is really very incisive. Thanks to the foreseen methodology, the participants directly involved in the project will have an opportunity to develop new skills and knowledge in a creative and attractive way, different than traditional methods that often, particularly among disadvantage youths, could appear as boring. At the same time they can implement similar activities in their countries of origin and create a group of young skaters. For this reason, the impact will be evident even at the local level. This project also includes a strong impact on the environment at local and international level. Several local associations working in these topics are included in this project. They will participate by sharing their experience and knowledge, giving an added value to the project itself, but mostly by creating a stronger and more enhanced network. After the end of the exchange, the overall project will be evaluated, with a specific focus on whether the objectives had been achieved and whether the youths had truly fulfilled their expectations. At this stage we will also arrange, according to the evaluation results, the common future activities and collaborations.
