A significant amount of wood products and other goods were being transported through Niiralas industrial area. There were eight businesses in the area. There was a significant need to improve the transport arrangements in the Niirala area by improving the regions roadways as well as their drainage and safety measures. The project was to create the prerequisites in order to develop the Niirala industrial area into a significant area where businesses utilise border operations as well as improve the operational environment of the businesses currently located in the area. Achievements: The planned procedures were completed in the project: industrial area intersection arrangements, construction/ improvements on the roadways going through the industrial area as well as the related cross-road arrangements, trucking storage areas and related roadways for wood, improvements to the roadways within the storage areas (railways), drainage for all sections, construction of waterworks for the area and as a backup for the Värtsilä water district, a sewer system for the area and a camera surveillance system.
