New Skills for New Schools: Students, E&T and Work
Start date: Sep 1, 2011,

The 7th European School Student Convention titled“New Skills for New Schools:Students,E&T and Work”will focus on the relations between education and training(E&T),the labour market and the private sector. The event will take place in Oslo,Norway,from2-6December and will gather around 50 participants from more than20 countries.Considering,on one hand, the financial cuts in education and,on the other, the rising youth unemployment rates in Europe, the theme of the project is very important for young people nowadays. Moreover, those are hot topics on the governments’agendas and it is important that young people are aware of existing possibilities and challenges,in order to be able to steer discussions and decision-making processes.Through debates, experts’panels and interactive workshops, the participants will explore today’s European scenario of cooperation between E&T and the changing job market.Being the favoured field where the two worlds interact,VET will be one of the main issues addressed.By glancing at the latest policy development both at EU and national level, participants will discuss threats and challenges deriving from the attempts to bridge the gap between E&T and the labour market.Through the exchange of experiences from their national realities, they will explore best practices and develop a deeper understanding of the possibilities of partnerships between E&T,the labour market and private sector. The event strives to create synergies across Europe and increase the participants’intercultural sensitivity and European identity. We believe that it is important for young people to fully understand the implications that policy developments may have on their lives:we want to encourage them to actively participate in any possible way in the decision making-processes at all levels.Apart from panel debates with international guests, the 7th European School Student Convention will mainly rely on non-formal education methods to foster the active involvement of participants.
