The project “New Skills for New Challenges” addressed the need for a new orientation in adult education focusing on education as a tool that will improve the personal and professional development of adult learners. The project activities aimed to increase the skills of the staff working at Bios- Life Long Learning Centre in order to better face the new challenges in adult education and language learning and to further develop the courses offered by the organisation as well as create new courses for the needs of adult learners. The trainings of this project focused on the acquisition and improvement of skills, knowledge and competences in teaching, course and material development, project development and management in the following areas: - language learning for specific purposes and intercultural communication - ICT use for teaching, especially the use of e-learning and blended learning including the design of ICT conducted courses and related teaching material - the assessment and validation of learning outcomes in non formal education - the development of entrepreneurship and creativity in adult learners In order to reach these aims employees of the applicant organisation participated in the following mobilities: - a structured training course with a focus on the use of technology and media in language teaching and learning - a job shadowing visit at an institution in the fields of educational technology, language course design and management, language courses for special purposes, validation and accreditation of skills, career guidance - a job shadowing visit at an institution specialized on intercultural learning and communication with a special focus to language learning for professional purposes The methodology of the project in terms of training focused on hands on experiences giving participants the chance to actively develop their skills and competences. In terms of project management the project was implemented in close cooperation with the partners. The persons who implemented the mobilities work as language teachers, teacher trainers and management staff for the applicant organisation. Participation in the trainings was of benefit for the participants increasing their professional skills and in consequence improved the work of the applicant organisation and thus benefited the local community. The increase in participants' skills resulted in the improvement of the already offered courses and projects and in the development of new activities. The cooperation with partners who are specialised in their respective areas resulted in insights into the management of successful organisations and will be used as a good example for the development of the applicant organisation. In this way the project has short, medium and long term benefits for the applicant organisation, the participants and the local community resulting in a higher quality of offered trainings, the development of new courses, the increase in cooperation and mobility on a European level and the increase in skills both of the trainers and the trainees.
