New Quality Image and Infrastructure Development in Remote Border Towns- Zarasai and Kraslava (New Quality Image)
Start date: Feb 16, 2009, End date: Sep 15, 2011 PROJECT  FINISHED

The objective of the project is to increase the attractiveness of the border towns of Zarasai and Kraslava by creating a regionally recognizable brand called new quality image. The project aims at delivering more attractive living environment by investing in the central parts of each town, including the construction of a modern town square in Zarasai and partial renovation of the Kraslava Castle complex. New image of Kraslava centre is inspiring local inhabitants and guests. The abandoned place that was used just for transition from transport to other places has become a cosy space in the centre of the town. The Lion, guard of Kraslava castle, has come back to his place at the grotto. One of project target groups, youth, was actively involved in image building. Youth photo contest My border town image and travelling photo exhibitions were organized with participation of youngsters from Kraslava and Zarasai. Meetings in both towns saw young people actively involved in the discussion on the future image of their towns. Municipalities acquired modern equipment like computers, plotters and software for architects in scope of the project. This dedicated equipment allows municipal architects take active part in urban planning and draft local urban planning documents, recommendations and concepts for the development of particular areas and formation of general future image of town. Reconstruction works in Zarasai are still in progress. Curious inhabitants are anxious to compare the finished building and visual concepts proposed in technical documentation.
