„New possibilities“ is an EVS project based in Lithuania, Siauliai School for speech therapy (Logopedic School), which is the only school in Lithuania for students having large and very large speech and communication impairments, emotional and behavioral, self-regulation impairments, hardness of hearing etc. With assistance of teachers and classes leaders volunteers from Ukraine and Turkey carry out 9 months long voluntary service. The main aim of the volunteers is helping with the education and caring activities with the children and young people with speech and communication disorders as well as giving intellectual support in the children everyday duties. Another aim of the project is to spread the ideas of non-formal education among the local people as well as spread the ideas of tolerance and responsibility for another human being. The staff care and support the volunteers. Volunteers will organize special meetings during which they share their experiences and various observations related to the project. During the project, we emphasize the international aspect of our actions in full awareness of the richness that is represented by every volunteer.The main task of the volunteers during the project is to support the children with special needs in their everyday duties giving them individual help; for instance: helping with getting dressed, preparing meals (lunch). Enough time will be allowed for volunteers to realize projects they will initiate with members of local community. In addition to social and personal development, volunteer will gain a lot of knowledge and will develop hands-on skills of work in the school.The main methods of „New possibilities“ project will be volunteers initiative and involvement. In this project the activities are heavily based on de-emphasize fulfillment of obligatory tasks and realization of individual initiative and ideas.
