New horizons for health care students.
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

We are a vocational training centre located in the municipality of Aretxabaleta, Gipuzkoa. Our training centre offers instruction in formal education (vocational training of higher grade and middle grade: auxiliary nursing care, care for people in situations of dependency, Welding, Machining, Electromechanical vehicle body, metal constructions and Production by powder metallurgy) and informal training (courses for active workers and unemployed). As an integral vocational training center, among our tasks is to advise the students in finding job opportunities. So far this advice has focused on helping students to meet the local and regional labor market, but the high unemployment rate requires us to develop new tools for counseling of students. Among these new tools is to provide students the knowledge of the European labor market, to have a wider range of career options and to know other ways of working and be counseled. At the same time, teachers of our center need to compare methods with other centres abroad. For this project we have contactacttd with a Swedish and two Turkish centress, creating a triangle that will allow us to compare different points of view when advising the students. Each centre has created a project team consisting of a member of the management, an IT responsible and three teachers / tutors on our formative cycle Auxiliary Nursing Care. The Swedish centre will give us the experience of a consolidated and low unemployment labor market, while Turkish schools will teach us how they operate in a labor market with a high growth rate.During the two-year project we will send pupils and teachers to Sweden and Turkey, and focus on training cycles Auxiliary Nursing Care and Care of Disabled People. The first year 2 teachers will travel to Turkey to job-shadowing, and Turkish and Swedish teachers will be received in our center. The second year another 2 teachers will go to Turkey and Sweden. Our centre will also receive teaching staff from the three partners.During the first year 3 students from our school will practice in Swedish companies, and 2 in Turkey. The second year of the project the same number of students wil travel to Sweden and Turkey to do the practices. Our center will receive the same number of trainees from Turkey and Sweden. The four Project Teams of the centre will communicate using the following applications: Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook and email. We are convinced that at the end of this two-year project, the project will be redesigned to apply the resulting methodology in other cycles of our training centre. The documentation created during the proyect will be use to teach other vocational teachers within the GARATU framework.. We will also present our project in different platforms such as E-twinning, Facebook and local newspapers (Mondraberri, El Diario Vasco). The creation of a space in our web related to the management of trainees at global level will enable us to improve the functioning of the centre, together with greater institutional visibility.
