New Energy for Old Mountain (NErgOM)

In order to identify solutions to constraints and weaknesses in the cross border area the project proposes a pilot institution building intervention. The project targets Vidin, Zajecar and Bor district The project strategy includes the following steps: - Selection and training of 15 experts in the cross border region and building their institutional and technical capacities to perform energy audits, thermal calculations and energy improvements. - Selecting 30 buildings, as a relevant sample of buildings in the cross border region, in two pilot municipalities (Vidin and Knjaževac) where energy efficiency audits will be performed. The municipalities will propose and the project team will select 30 buildings hosting public institutions, companies and citizens, 10 each. - Purchase of equipment for energy audit. The equipment is purchased by the Directorate for Development of Knjazevac, who will make it available to the other municipalities during and after the end of the project. - Training of technical specialists, building and sharing of know-how on energy audits, thermal calculations and energy improvements. There is an element of good practice transfer from the Bulgarian to the Serbian side. This is the main capacity building part of the project, where new technical knowledge and skills will be jointly developed and experience will be shared. There is an important component of specific on-the-job Training – use of thermo graphic cameras, energy auditing and reporting. - energy audits will be performed and measurements gathered and included in models of efficient use of energy. - Raising awareness of the general population by organising development, printing and distribution of the book - Guide to the energy Efficiency for the wide public, among the other. Achievements: The project envisioned and achieved the following results:- Conducted training on the use of thermography in construction with special equipment procured under the project;- Performed thermography analysis for 30 buildings in both countries and a report was made for each of the building examined;- Energy efficiency in the cross-border region seminar conducted and additional consultations were held with 41 volunteering institutions, building owners, and companies;- A comprehensive publicity and media campaign was implemented, including: four press conferences, preparation and broadcasting of TV spot, 6 press releases, distribution of a variety of promotional materials and creation of a project web site.- Organization of a final press conference with 115 participants.The project was successfully completed in April 2014.
