Network for the Development of Higher Education Management Systems
Start date: Oct 1, 2009,

DEHEMS project builds upon earlier projects such as CHEERS (5FP), REFLEX (6FP) and HEGESCO (Erasmus programme). It seeks to explore the databases of over 80,000 graduates from 20 European Countries that were self-assessed at the time of their graduation and 4-5 years afterwards. The existing surveys represent huge valorisation potential. By complementing a series of studies related to early career patterns in particular educational fields and sectors, this project aims to develop an innovative approach for the implementation of HE management systems and quality assurance from the following aspects:a) The ratio of general and professional specific subjects and their complementarities; b) The ratio of teaching and learning modes from the point-of-view of information and social learning aspects;c) The extent to collaborate with employers and the emphasis of apprenticeships;d) The assessment and recognition of non-formal learning experiences.By producing reports focusing on recommendations for management and quality assurance in HE, an electronic newspaper for the European HE community and two large international conferences, this project directly addresses the needs of HE institutions and their management and teaching staff. It aims to provide empirically based results and recommendations for the organisation of HE curricula, teaching practices, cooperation with enterprises and students’ apprenticeships, integration of research activities into curricula, universities’ career centres and the organisation of HE practicum. All these elements will be addressed from the point-of-view of quality assurance and monitoring tools. These tools will specifically be related to categories of accreditation, benchmarking, audit and valuation procedures. Following the Bergen guidelines (2005) they will address internal and external quality assurance elements.
