Network for Innovation and Learning on Mircroreactor Technology
Start date: Oct 1, 2012,

The chemical industry faces challenges in the field of competition, innovation and sustainability. These challenges can be met by improving existing processes and introducing new technologies. Microreactor technology (MRT) is a highly innovative technology under development worldwide at scientific high-level. There is a need to integrate MRT in educational programs and keep education up to date. The classic manner of education does not keep up with innovations. The same challenge can been indentified for the translation of high-level scientific knowledge to SMEs. The aim of the project is to bridge the gap between chemistry education, research and innovation in international businesses and SMEs, specifically concerning MRT. The project proposes to address this issue by the designing and implementing a international “Network for Innovation and Learning” (NIL) and several ‘Communities for development’ (CfDs). The network will build forth on the knowledge on learning networks and go further by combining knowledge and people from universities and industries (SMEs). The network will host state-of-the-art educational content, which will be developed and maintained by the partners in this network. The network will also facilitate online, international collaboration. In the CfDs teachers, experts and students make use of the NIL to conduct research on a real-life valorization case of a company. The following products will be produced:• Innovative research and development for SME’s and other industries;• Content for web-based education in the field of MRT;• Educational program on MRT for students and adult learners;• Best practices on international networks for innovation and learning, and communities for development;• Effective and efficient dissemination and exploitation of the results. The impact envisaged is to ensure collaboration between universities and companies in Europe on MRT and thus enlarge the innovative capacity of the chemical industry in Europe.
