NETacces - Fostering the cross-border communities' free access to the Internet Network (NETacces)
Start date: Feb 29, 2012, End date: Feb 27, 2013 PROJECT  FINISHED

Accessing the Internet is a fundamental right for everyone independent of race, nationality, sex, religion, age, socio economic or geographic situation. As outlined in the Communication from the Commission to the Council and the European Parliament – Better access for rural areas to modern Information and Communication Technologies, rural areas still suffer from a lack of access to information and communication technologies. Also, in this document is outlined that the European Union has a role to play through regional policy and rural development policy instruments. Broadband internet access for all has a prime importance to generate growth and employment. Rural communities in the border RO / HU faces even with the problems listed above. To these we add more people from disadvantaged groups, without any possibility of internet access. Providing free Internet access to rural population in the border area, especially disadvantaged groups facilitates sustainable development of territorial communities, boosting the development of knowledge-based economy, and decreasing the gap between urban and rural areas. Partners understand the importance of European directives in this regard and the project they work for the development of a joint border and proposing additional solutions that could be applied to other regions with similar characteristics. The general objective of the project is improving border cooperation RO / HU, in addressing the needs of the community free access to ICT.Target groups (direct beneficiaries) are formed by: the population of the 11 localities geographically disadvantaged social and economic, situated within the Hungarian-Romanian border (six localities in Romania and five villages in Hungary): an estimated number of 30,000 people, of which 6000 residents of communities located in Romania and 24,000 residents of towns in Hungary. The main specific activities of the project are: organizing cross-border meetings/events; fostering the free access to Internet network; improving the target groups IT competencies.Among project results: 6 free internet access points set up (in Romania); 5 fFree internet access points upgraded (in Hungary); 4 training organized; 210 persons trained; 1 common strategy prepared.
