Nepal Urban Cultural EVS
Start date: Aug 1, 2013,

NUCE is an EVS project involving 12 young people of fewer opportunities selected by The Swift Centre, the sending organisation. They will travel from London, UK to Pokhara, Nepal to carry out approximately 3 weeks of service with host organisation 'Move Nepal.' The EVS focusses on three main themes, disability, environment, and urban/rural development. The group will explore these themes by taking part in three different activities: 1) extra-curricular teaching of English as a foreign language, basic computer skills and sports and drama; 2) cooperating with local young people to in an environmental conservation activity; 3) engaging with local visually impaired young people to support them in their learning. The project aims to promote a range of qualities in the volunteers conducive to their development as active European citizens. Amongst these are the promotion of tolerance; the development of initiative and self-confidence through working in situations outside of volunteers' comfort zones; mutual understanding of young people in the UK and Nepal; and the increasing of the capability of young people in the UK and Nepal to contribute positively to their local youth community groups. This will take place in the context of working with young people both with and without disabilities, typically marginalised from their communities and affected by poverty.
