Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our school, in an effort to face the challenges of modern society, needs to revise and reform its educational programmes, to respond effectively to the needs of the students for success in social and professional life. For this reason, our main aim is to design strategies for the improvement of the quality of education, through the use of the New Technologies and innovative approaches that will enhance and stimulate the students’ active involvement in the educational process. Particular emphasis is placed on students ' awareness of the principles of diversity, tolerance, non-discrimination and elimination of stereotypes, with the aim of developing understanding and acceptance of people of different cultures and civilizations. We firmly believe that in-service teacher training constitutes a priority for quality development in our educational system. Our school staff that have participated in the mobility activities come from various teaching fields. They are all involved in innovative programs in our school, both in the formal and non-formal sector. They are also part of the main team responsible for the implementation of the Erasmus+ program for strategic partnerships that our school is participating in. In our immediate plans it is organising our own Erasmus+ program as the applicant organisation, as well as an eTwinning project. All these teachers share a profound interest in our school, love for their jobs and an intrinsic drive for finding new ways and approaches to enhance teaching and learning at school. These teachers are interested in training programmes that, in link with the needs of our school, focus on integrating the New Technologies and innovative approaches into our school process. Their training in the New Technologies involved the use of various forms of technology to create dynamic learning environments and to increase student motivation and participation. The methodological approach of these activities included presenting and analyzing the current trends in the field of new technologies and the use of various class learning techniques, as well as using an on-line platform for exchanging educational material, good practices, ideas and experiences with other schools in Europe. Teacher training in innovative approaches has focused on the development of new alternative ways of teaching and learning, that foster quality development at school. Teacher training programs have also promoted synergies between schools, as in the case of Erasmus+ and eTwinning, along with other practices that enhance the European dimension in education, the linguistic competences in foreign languages and the teachers’ interest in continuous professional development. Furthermore, the improvement of students’ school performance, active participation and cooperation, increased initiative, creativity, cultural awareness and self-esteem constitute the added value for the school. The implementation of the new methods that have resulted from the mobility projects have strengthened the impact on the school community as a whole. The innovative school projects were promoted through a series of activities, such as student blogs, articles in the school paper and school site, as well as articles in papers of the local community, workshops for teachers, students and parents, School Open Day and Awareness Day. As a result of these practices, the school has opened to the whole community, bringing long-lasting effects on the school as an educational institution. A decisive factor for the successful implementation of innovative approaches in school education is reinforcing the motivation and commitment of the entire school staff. This was achieved through providing seminars and workshops for the colleagues in our school, with the possibility of extending them for teachers in the larger area. In conclusion, we believe that providing our staff with the opportunities for professional development through the mobility activities was a necessary step towards meeting the challenges of the education in the 21st century.
