Liceum Ogolnokształcace in Kamienica Polska is a secondary school of general education, situated in a disadvantaged rural area with a high level of unemployment. The current number of students is around 50, due to the decline in a birthday rate and the fact that some students graduating from local lower secondary schools decide to continue their education in a nearby city of Częstochowa. Most of the students, who choose our school, enter it with poor results and low motivation. It requires a lot of effort and skills from the teachers to make the school more attractive for students and change their attitudes to studying. Therefore, we view the Erasmus Plus Programme as a big opportunity, which will enable us to train the school staff in order to make the school educational offer more attractive for students, introduce changes in the school carriculum and improve the quality of teaching. The changes will result in attracting students with better results and reversing the negative recruitment tendency observed in recent years.
The most essential priorities, we have incorporated in the School Development Plan are:
1. All teachers will acquire linguistic competences in English language.
2. All 16 members of the school staff will take part language and methodology courses abroad (12 subject teachers, 2 language teachers, the head of school and the school counselor). 14 teachers including the head of school will enrol in an intensive language courses, 7 teachers will take part in CLIL Methodology course, 3 teachers (English, geography and biology) will take part in the “Building Learning Power” course. English teacher will be trained in the UK and German teacher in Germany.
3. We are going to continue European educational youth programmes under Erasmus Plus, Action KA2.
4. A class will be introduced, where students will be learning some subjects on the extended level in the CLIL System (some elements of the subjects will be taught in English language).
5. In the long term, we have a goal to apply for the International Baccalaureate Programme and enable our students to obtain an IB Diploma.
We expect that the professional development of staff under the new Erasmus + Programme will have a big impact on our institution.
- The linguistic competences of our subject teachers, which are quite low at present, will increase during the intensive English language courses, and it will allow them to take part in the CLIL Methodology course.
- The English teacher and German teacher will take part in EFLmethodology courses, where they will refresh and improve their language skills and learn new methods of teaching languages.
- During the Building Learning Power teachers will gain awareness of new student-centered teaching.
- All teaching staff will be better prepared for taking part in the European Educational Projects and students exchanges.
- Participating staff will become more interculturally aware through meeting colleagues from other countries as well as being in the UK/Germany.
- Our school will gain a more European profile and a reputation of a leader in carrying out international programmes in the Czestochowa district.
- The possibility to obtain an IB Diploma by students from the Czestochowa region will open the door for them to study at universities all around the world.
