Nauczyciel drogowskazem młodego Europejczyka.
Start date: Dec 31, 2015, End date: Dec 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

We have entitled our project: The teacher as a guide for a young European. Its participants are eleven teachers of Jan III Sobieski High School in Kraków (II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Króla Jana III Sobieskiego). They are foreign language teachers, some of whom teach also other subjects. We are planning to undertake the following project activities: • language development (participation in language courses) • developing teaching skills, exploring new areas of teaching methodologies (participation in methodological courses) • encouraging students’ development through their participation in international projects (focus on European dimension) Making this application, Jan III Sobieski High School wants to involve the teachers in improving their professional skills through their participation in international language and methodological courses. Constant improvement and professional development raise the standard of teaching. Skill-sharing with the teachers from other countries is also of great importance. The solutions adopted abroad may prove highly valuable for our school’s development. It should be emphasized that all the mentioned above benefits refer not only to the teaching staff but to the students as well. As promoting their pro-European development is an important element of our school policy, the teachers’ participation in international projects contributes to the students’ educational and personal development by both encouraging them to get involved in a project and setting them an example by continuous skills development. Our long-term goals are teaching staff development, raising the standard of teaching in the school and improving the quality of our educational offer for incoming students. Jan III Sobieski High School puts a considerable emphasis on the necessity of professional development of the teaching staff. The teachers’ participation in courses, workshops and other international projects develops their competence not only by mastering their language skills but also through constant skill-sharing with the teachers from other countries. The latter might be a valuable source of new ideas to refresh our methods and technologies. Another important aspect is broadening the teachers’ knowledge of the European educational system. It is especially important due to the growing interest in studying abroad among our students. We assume that thanks to the participation in international projects the teachers of our school will be able to prepare young people for higher education and for mobility, work and daily life in multinational and multicultural Europe. They will also be able to foster the values of respect and tolerance, as well as increase the students’ European awareness. We want to raise the prestige of Jan III Sobieski High School all the time both in our region and in the country. The participation of our teachers and students in international school exchanges will enable them to learn how educational institutions in other European countries operate, which may result in introducing new interesting elements into our curriculum. The participation of the teaching staff in methodological courses abroad and the students’ participation in language courses within Erasmus + programme will let us broaden our educational offer and will be the great promotion of the school, Kraków and the region. While choosing a secondary school, candidates and their parents take its European aspect into consideration, wondering whether it is able to provide students with the knowledge and language skills which are necessary to study at a foreign university. Teachers’ participation in international events will definitely help Jan Sobieski High School confirm its high position among the schools which offer their students such opportunities. We assume that graduating from Jan III Sobieski High School makes our students proud but also aware of the fact that they have been given excellent opportunities for further education. We also believe that their personal conduct as well as their awareness of civic duties gained at school will help them in the future to succeed both in their private and professional life. For the main objective of a modern school is not only making students acquire knowledge but also raising them as Poles and conscious Europeans.
