Nature Me!
Start date: Feb 1, 2016, End date: Oct 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Since the mid-1970s, EU environment policy has been guided by action programmes defining priority objectives to be achieved over a period of years. The current programme, the seventh of its kind, was adopted by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union in November 2013 and covers the period up to 2020.The programme is guided by a long term mission:“In 2050, we live well, within the planet’s ecological limits. Our prosperity and healthy environment stem from an innovative, circular economy where nothing is wasted and where natural resources are managed sustainably, and biodiversity is protected, valued and restored in ways that enhance our society’s resilience. Our low-carbon growth has long been decoupled from resource use, setting the pace for a safe and sustainable global society” (7th EAP — The new general Union Environment Action Programme to 2020).As youth organizations, our mission is to eavesdrop on the needs of the young people and strive to address them through our activities. But what is the real understanding of the young people when it comes to topic such as nature, environment, recycling, up-cycling, sustainability? What are their visions and aspirations? Which support measurements will have an impact on their understanding and what topics should we address when implementing activities for them? Based on the EU environmental policy and the action programmes defining priority objectives to be achieved, we created the project “Nature Me!” The vision of the project is a society where young people enjoy their rights related to healthy living and are active citizens. Its aim is to empower the youth to support youth to remain environmental friendly and sustainable. The objectives of the project are:- To explore the importance of nature in our lives and the concept of sustainable development- To share what happens in other countries on the topic of nature protection- To get to know various techniques in protecting nature-To feel connected with nature- To foster active citizenship-To feel inspired and motivated to take initiatives in protecting nature-To become multipliers of the knowledge and experience gainedThe project is consisted of a youth exchange of youth from Programme countries. The youth exchange will take place in Moniatis village in Limassol, Cyprus between dates It will gather 25 youth workers from Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Romania and Hungary. The youth exchange will be based on the elements of experiential learning, self-directed learning and non-formal education (NFE). NFE endorses a participative and learner-centred approach, it is carried out by learners on a voluntary basis and therefore it is closely linked to participants’ needs, aspirations and interests. NFE is also based on the Kolb’s cycle of experiential learning in which participants’ experience is facilitated by the facilitators in order to lead to learning. The facilitator’s team is consisted of proficient users of non-formal education. The facilitators will provide to the participants a broad arsenal of non-formal education tools such as role-plays, brainstorming, group work, simulations, theoretical inputs, discussion methods, outdoor education, theatrical games etc. All these non-formal education methods will be used in order to ensure the active participation of the youth workers involved. The use of NFE will help participants to get the chance to know each other, work together and share information. The working methods will stimulate participants’ personal, socio-educational and environmental development. The project will have a variety of tangible and intangible results. Intangible results refer to the knowledge and experience gained by the youth involved, their developed skills and their enhanced active citizenship. The tangible results, refer to a video produced about the project and the workshops given to the local community. We believe that these results of the project will have a positive impact on the participating organizations, on the young people and on other youth organizations. On a long run the project will help the young participants feel empowered to spread the feeling and everything they learned about living in harmony with nature.
