NATURA 2000-es legelő területen, természettel együttműködő gazdálkodást megvalósító minta program (Polyán program)
Start date: Aug 31, 2009, End date: Aug 30, 2010 PROJECT  FINISHED

The target area "Polyán" is a NATURA 2000 area, an abandoned grazing meadow on the hill side. As grazing was quit decades ago, succession turned the meaadow into a bushy area, changing the former habitat. The Polyán is an important habitat for the Aquila heliaca, but succession made its population to stagnate. The inadequate opening of roads across the meadow accelerated erosion and further degradation of the grazing area. As a result of its features, Polyán is suitable only for extensive farming, which is not a profitable land use. Nevertheless, on the target area there are two farmers on the hungarian side who are ready to co-operate int he frame of this nature protection project. Achievements: The project targeted the development and dissemination of nature friendly farming practices in the cross-border area of the Hegyköz region. Attention was mainly paid to the \"Aquila heliaca\" which disappeared in the previous years on the Slovak side. The project also aimed to facilitate co-operation among Slovak and Hungarian farmers, especially among those interested in natural farming. Another important aim was devised on the basis of the landscape management proposals for access to information and awareness raising among the affected farmers and local communities.
